Beautiful antique 1894 Limoges 8 1/2" tall x 10" wide hand painted vase with a flying dragon with lots of detail, winding ivy and large magenta tulip like flower and buds on the back. The dragon is done in shades of green, rust, amethyst, gold and brown. On both sides of the dragon are twisting vines of ivy. Above the ivy below the handles is a raised plumb painted with gold. The background colors are soft butter yellow with soft forest green. There are 2 bands of gold around the base of the vase and around its neck, the rim edge is deeply flared and scalloped. The handles are open and have raised flares. The bottom of the base is scalloped. The back is painted with smaller twisting ivy vines, has a soft butter yellow, soft forest green and soft peachy background and has a large magenta parrot tulip type flower with tiny buds around it. Signed and dated Emily Rockwood, Nov. 1894. Stamped J. P. Limoges France. This a wonderful and unusual piece.
