Antique Tiles

Manufacturer: American Encaustic Tiling Company
There is a wonderful chocolate brown glaze on this matched pair of portrait tiles made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company (Zanesville, OH), circa 1890. The relief is extremely high. Each tile is 8" square, and has the early AET mark on the back. The condition is very good. There are no problems on any of the high relief areas of the portraits - which is unusual. There are 2 small areas of professional restoration on the female - on the upper edge of the circle over her head, and in the bottom left corner. The male tile has one small area of restoration on the circle edge over his head. Marvelous portrait tile pair - would look exceptional framed! (#T-1054)
