Antique silver plate box. Hallmarked & numbered. c.late 19th, early 20th. It is either silver on copper, or silverplate, not sure. It is very detailed and has no dings. The interior is lined with wood, so this was likely a snuff or cigarette box, or tobacco humidor but you can use it for whatever you like! A bit of the wood is missing on interior side, and there is a tiny spot of the metal missing on side corner of lid; neither of those small flaws are visible from front display side. The box is 5 wide x 2 high. It has a raised number 7 on underside of lid lip; and 5 hallmarks on bottom. I can only make out last two; one is an amperand symbol and one is a serpeant. A friend who is an Anthropology professor that speaks German, said she believes the hallmarks are German gothic script.
