War Date Document Signed

(1821-98) Regular Army, 1855-85. Served in the 4th U.S. Artillery, and was Colonel, Quartermaster's Dept. He was in charge of transportation in Washington until February 1863, when he became Chief Quartermaster, 1st Corps, Army of the Potomac, and took to the field at the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He returned to the transportation office until August 1864 when he became a division head in the Quartermaster's Office. Promoted to rank of Brevet Brigadier General March 13, 1865. He was the first cousin of Union General Napoleon J.T. Dana.

Herewith enclosed please find duplicate Invoices and Receipts of two horses. You will recollect that when 200 horses were sent to you on the 3rd October last to New York, you sent receipt back for only 198 horses. The remaining two horses were forwarded to you from Philadelphia by Lt. Col. G.H. Crosman, Deputy Qr. Mr. Genl., U.S. Army.
