Autograph Letter Signed

(1819-93) Born in Brownville, New York, he was the son of Major General Jacob Brown of War of 1812 fame. During the Civil War he served as Lieutenant Colonel; Deputy Paymaster General; Chief Paymaster, Department of the Missouri. He was promoted to brevet brigadier general for meritorious services during the war. He remained in the Regular U.S. Army after the Civil War, with rank of Brigadier General and Paymaster General, retiring in 1882.
