William B. Franklin: (1823-1903) Graduated #1 in the West Point class of 1843. He won a brevet for gallantry in the Mexican War at Buena Vista. As an engineer officer, he was in charge of the construction of the new Capitol dome in Washington, D.C. He commanded a brigade at the 1st Battle of Bull Run, and led a division, and subsequently the 6th Corps, with distinction in the Virginia Peninsular campaign. During the Maryland campaign, he commanded the forces which penetrated Crampton's Gap at South Mountain, and his led his corps at Antietam. At the battle of Fredericksburg, he commanded the "Left Grand Division." He later commanded the 19th Corps in the expedition to Sabine Pass and in the ill fated Red River campaign in which he was wounded.

David M. Clough: (1846-1924) A Republican politician, he served in the Minnesota State Senate, 1887-93; was Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, 1893-95; and served as the 13th Governor of Minnesota, 1895-99.

Bermingham, General Treasurer N.H.D.V.S., the sum of Sixty seven hundred, seventy seven and 50/100 Dollars, in full of the above account, by Check No. 75296 on the U.S. Asst. Treasurer, N.Y. D.M. Clough, Governor. Excellent.
