Copperton Lane Antiques & Collectibles

Circa: 1966
Country of Origin: IT
Manufacturer: Mid Century Italian Import
A scarce boxed set of six unusual unsilvered blown glass Christmas ornaments from 1960s Italy. They are clear glass with hand painted scenes of angels, Santa Claus, and pine trees. What's unusual about them is that each has a silver mercury glass bubble dome blown into the bottom, which reflects the painted figures. On a lit Christmas tree, the mercury glass bubble catches and reflects the colored lights in a delightful way, especially with twinkling lights.

The ornaments are about 3-1/4 inches high by 2-1/2 or so inches diameter. Three have a painted Santa with toy sack scene at the front with pine trees at the back and sides, all trimmed with gold glitter. The other three ornaments have angels in red, blue, and yellow gowns holding white trees, three to each ornament. They are in excellent condition with no damage, scratches, or paint loss. The original manila box is marked Made in Italy on the lid with a stock number. "Hollow small balls 1966" is written on the lid in ink.
