This is a beautifully made, new cast bronze No. 40 scrub plane, basically the Stanley No. 40 look alike, but nicer. Beautiful walnut handle and knob, (the cocobolo handle and knob in the picture have been revised to walnut) heavy duty, thick cutter, and nice cutter screw pad on the cap cover screw are some of the improvements to the plane. No need for paint or Japanning as the bed won't rust! These plane is made here in the U.S.A.. The original cardboard box and cutter are marked with the makers name. The bed of the casting is marked "NO.40 MADE IN U.S.A.". The cutter will need the final edge honed on when you are ready to use it. A very nice tool! <BR> The blade width is 1.25" and the plane is 9.5" long overall. Each one of these is cast bronze, that means it is more resistant to cracking than cast iron!
