Circa: 1850
Several years ago I bought 4 famous harbor or waterway prints, intending to hang them in my living room. Somehow they got misplaced and they never were hung. I just found all 4 in a nice tight plastic box where they’ve been for over 20 years. This is definitely not my area of prime interest or expertise, but I think that all 4 prints are beautiful, and obviously not color-damaged or faded from exposure.
As far as I can determine, all are antique line engravings which were hand tinted, ca 1850-1855. Although not super large, they present quite a bit of detail, and are in very good condition; all have antique lined, cream colored matting and custom quality framing wood, each a little different. There are 2 frames of the same size, and the other 2, slightly smaller are similar in size. All have paper backing and a wire for hanging.

The fourth print is Harpers Ferry, ca 1850.
Overall frame is 11 ¾ x 9 7/8 inches, just a bit smaller than the New Orleans print, with distressed antique silver color frame; 4 lines of gold on the cream mat with a center stripe of pinkish tan; plain glass is intact.

The image has a group of people on the near shore overlooking the bridge and a bend in the river which comes from behind looming white rocks. The dominant colors are grays with a splashes of pale green, pale blue, and some brighter color on the interesting land folk: one women pointing with an umbrella, men in tall dark hats, what looks like a Chinese hat, with dogs in front of the group; another rider drives a hay wagon down the lower street area. This main colored section measures approximately 6 x 4 inches.

There is an area of white around the main picture, where Harpers Ferry is printed underneath; on the very edge on the right, just above the mat is printed: Eigenthum. D. Verleger. There is the top of more printing on the left side, but not enough to be able to read.

The picture shows evidence of water spotting at the top-mid area, and some soft folds on the left upper area. A round tan spot in the lower left corner is also noted.
