(1822-91) At the outbreak of the Civil War he helped raise the 7th Ohio Infantry and was elected their colonel. He saw service in the 1861 West Virginia campaign, the 1862 Shenandoah Valley campaign, the battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, and later commanded the Baltimore defenses. He was commissioned brigadier general, May 14, 1862, and brevet major general in March 1865. His nephew was General Robert O. Tyler, Gettysburg artillery commander.

Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Standing view in uniform with rank of brigadier general. Brady, New York imprint on the front mount. Autographed in ink, E.B. Tyler, Brig. Genl. Backmark: Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries. Light wear. Card is stained.
