View of river and destroyed buildings. No backmark. Period pencil inscription on the reverse, "A ruined street in Chambersburg." Light age toning and wear.

General John McCausland led the Confederate raid into Chambersburg, Pa. in July 1864. His mission was to cause as much damage as possible in retaliation for the destruction caused by The Yankees in the Shenandoah Valley.
