In January 2007 the Chesapeake Antiquarian Photographic Society (CAPS) was renamed the Maryland Photographic Society to better address the broad interest of the society in the development of photography from its inception to the present. The Society which was established as Chesapeake Antiquarian Photographic Society in 1971, is open to all who have an interest in photography and in the study and preservation of our photographic heritage. Present members include collectors of antique and modern cameras, photographic equipment, prints, and publications about photography as well as students and scholars interested in the history and development of the medium. Most of the active membership is drawn from the Chesapeake Bay region of the mid-eastern US.

Meetings with a program related to photographic history, an annual dinner with an invited speaker, and an annual picnic are held in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area each year.
