Vtg Cranberry Flash Glass Lamp Lighting Part Cut Etched to Clear
Neat find out of a home. We believe this to be an antique piece from the style, type & design, but there are no manufacturer or country of origin markings so we can't promise this. It is definitely minimally a vintage piece and not new.
A glass lamp part, usually used in the body of a table lamp. We've seen these referred to sometimes as "spacers" but don't know for certain if that is the correct name. We do not have any other parts that would have originally been used with this lamp.
Vintage cranberry glass, referred to as cranberry flash as the design is cut and etched to clear on this piece. Design is of grape clusters (3 of these around piece), with pairs of two leaves in between (3 of these pairs around piece), with hanging curlicue stem parts, and circles or dots near base of piece (13 of these circles around piece). The leaves, grape clusters and dots appear to be low cuts into the glass (not deep cuts but you can feel the edges), with the curlicues possibly etched as we can't feel the edges here. Hollow antique lamp part, we believe the cranberry color appears only on outside (net the "flash") as inside is smooth where outside has been cut.
Measures about 6 inches in height when seated on a table, with about 5 inches in diameter to greatest width. Traditional shape, larger at top with sloped inward sides to smaller base, often seen on antique glass lamps of this type. This vintage lamp part weighs a bit over 14 ounces unpacked.
We've provided 8 images to try and show varied sides, top & bottom. Please note that the camera lighting causes both white and red "hot spots" on the smooth glass surfaces (there are no brighter red spots on this piece, the cranberry color is even and the same where it appears). Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Wonderful vintage condition with no major flaws but not mint, likely had been used as part of a lamp at some past point. There are no cracks or breaks or large flaws here and the design cutting/etching is in great shape. There are multiple tiny/small chips along both the top and bottom circular ends, some of this on the end edges, some on the inside end edges, and some on the outer end edges, as well as circular scraping near these ends that is likely from whatever lamp pieces originally covered these ends, but all of this should be covered and not noticeable when used as part of a lamp. The glass body has some pitting/dot pitting, dots in the glass, scratches/scrapes, what may be a vertical line stain in one spot (we are not sure this would wash off, we only lightly washed this piece, but this is only noticed on close inspection when held at an angle in bright light and don't believe you will see this in use), other expected light wear....so not mint but not bad and all supports vintage age and not likely to be noticed when in use or at a distance.
A great old replacement piece for an antique lamp or part for someone making their own lamp. A crafty person could perhaps also use this in making some other beautiful art object.
