Vintage Noritake Azalea China Two Handle Cake Plate, M Red Mark, 19322
Lovely two handled antique cake plate or serving dish in the popular Azalea China pattern. This plate bears the red Noritake mark on the underside base, stating "Noritake, M (in a wreath, for Morimura Brothers), Hand Painted, Made in Japan (followed by some Japanese letters/emblems), 19322". White porcelain base plate (it is translucent) with pink azalea hand painted flowers (two at top of plate with one at bottom), with side pierced curved handles trimmed in gold paint, and a gold line trim to the outer circular edge of the dish. While we do not know the age of this plate for certain, it is vintage, came out of an elderly person's home with other antique and vintage items, and from the mark we believe it dates to the 1920's or 1930's.
Measures 9 1/2 inches plate diameter from outer edges with azaleas, 9 3/4 inches width from outer edges of handles, and sits 1 3/4 inches in height. We've provided 7 images including close-up details and the manufacturer mark. We had problems showing the coloring accurately given the glossy plate surface and our camera lighting, so we shot images both with and without the camera lighting (since the lighting seemed to make the plate and coloring "more dramatic" than it is in person, although shooting without the lighting made things seem dark). This plate has the true traditional rich, bright pink Noritake coloring which we have seen/handled with other pieces in the past (Nippon Azalea pieces have a lighter/paler, less dramatic pink coloring). This plate weighs slightly over one pound unpacked.
Excellent, slightly used condition. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing. There are some light scratches on the white topside surface, but you need to look at an angle in bright light to see these. There is also general wear on the gold on the handles which is visible (scratches to white, line marks, dots, general wear), nothing unexpected for a piece which was used and the gold is still mainly there, but you need to know the gold handles won't look "new". Also on the underside there is some light scratches and expected wear from age/use to the underside base rim on which this piece sits, with some darkening, pit/pin dots, numerous tiny minor flaking/tiny chipping on this rim, general wear to be expected and nothing bad.
A great usable and displayable vintage piece which would be a terrific addition to any collection of this nifty Azalea pattern china. Would also make a nice gift for a gardener who loves azaleas.
