14526

Porcelain Half Doll Pincushion This lovely half doll pincushion is about 6 inches high by 5" diameter at the base. Her puffy gathered skirt is a peachy salmon pink satin with shirred ruffles and pink and green silk gimp flower trim. The waist sash has some fraying at the cut ends and there's a pin hole at the lower front center of the skirt. The upper back skirt has some color fading. The porcelain doll is in excellent condition with no damage. No markings are visible.

14586

Antique Heinrich Bavaria Blue Floral Porcelain Vanity Set This circa 1910 three piece porcelain vanity or dresser set features lovely blue forget-me-not flowers hand painted on porcelain blanks made by Heinrich and Company of Bavaria. The hatpin holder is 5 inches high and comes with the two hat pins shown. It is decorated on both sides and has the artist's initials EJA on the back.

The hair receiver has the same artist initials and stamped green H & Co. Bavaria with crown mark as the hatpin holder, as well as the inscription "Ruth From Myrtle". The 6-1/4 by 3-3/4 inch dresser tray is marked only with the impressed number 144 on the bottom. The set is in wonderful condition with no damage or paint wear.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 14319: Asian Lacquered Jewelry Box Soapstone Flower Decoration

Click for more detail...

14319

Asian Lacquered Jewelry Box Soapstone Flower Decoration This beautiful vintage Asian lacquered wood jewelry box features an inlaid roses and hummingbird decoration made of carved soapstone on the lid. The box has beveled edges, solid brass hardware, and gold gilt decorative trim. It measures 12-3/8 by 8 by 4 inches high. The inside of the lid is covered in mauve Shantung silk, ruched around a diamond shape mirror. The removable 2-section divided tray and bottom are lined in the same silk fabric.

The jewelry box is in very good vintage condition. The soapstone carvings have no chips. There's only a single tiny chip to the high quality lacquer finish, just above the lid opening edge on the left corner (if you look closely you can see it in the second photo). There are some tiny, hair fine marks to the surface from normal use and age, nothing that approaches a scratch or disrupts the finish. The gold trim does have typical light wear, the worst being a missing a 3/8" long strip to the lines on the upper back edge of the lid. The interior bottom and tray have some faint scuffing from use but no stains or tears. The biggest issue is the dust that has collected over the years in the stone crevices. I used damp Q-tips and a soft cloth to gently clean but did no more than that for fear of damaging the lacquer.

Click for more detail...

11461

Art Deco Celluloid 9 Piece Vanity Dresser Set With Perfume, Frame Because this Pereline celluloid vanity set includes a button hook, it probably dates to no later than the mid 1920s. Each of the nine items is decorated with an early Art Deco design of blue and slate blue-gray rectangles with black perpendicular lines on marbled ivory colored celluloid sandwiched over transparent amber.

The pieces include a perfume bottle, hairbrush engraved Pereline on the handle, clothes brush, manicure scissors, shoe horn, button hook, bladed manicure tool (possible for cuticles), lid for hair receiver (jar bottom not present), and an easel backed picture frame with the original glass. For size reference, the frame is about 6-3/4" high by 5 inches wide, the hairbrush is a little over 9 inches long, and the perfume is 4-3/4" high.

The set is in very good condition for its age with no melt marks, stains, or serious wear. There are some minor issues: the easel stand to the frame is detached at the top though the ribbon holder is still attached to the center; the inside rim of the hair receiver lid has some chips/breaks to the thin celluloid; the perfume has some solidified perfume at the top rim and one tiny chip to the edge of the square top piece; the rubber perfume atomizer has hardened; the manicure blade is banged up at the tip.

Circa: 1920

Click for more detail...

13168

1930s Yellowstone Souvenir Painted Leather Hankie Box This handpainted suede leather handkerchief box was a souvenir from Yellowstone Park. The padded lid is decorated with the charming hugging bear mascot, which was the unofficial Yellowstone logo into the 1930s. The poor sad-looking cub is chained to a tree near a sign that reads "No Hugging Allowed in the Park" with the phrase "All I Was Hug A Little" printed below. The word Handkerchiefs is stenciled above the painted scene, and Yellowstone Park is below it.

The box measures 6-1/4 inches square by 1-3/4" deep. The inside of the lid is lined in faded red paper, the box bottom is lined in red wool felt. The box sides and bottom are covered in textured brown leatherette paper. There's a little wear to the bottom edges as shown, otherwise it's in very good condition. Ideal for both men or women.

14140

Deco Flapper Half Doll Clothing Brush This porcelain ceramic half doll clothing whisk brush is from the 1920s. The top is an unmarked flapper half doll wearing a Deco style orange, blue, and yellow patterned high collared dress and a gold cloche hat. The waist area is wrapped in ombre peach satin ribbon with a strand of tiny fabric flowers and a silk hanging cord. The broom straw is dyed in lavender with bright pink at the bottom. The back of the doll's head has some wear to the gold paint, otherwise the brush is in excellent vintage condition.

7143

Milk Glass Shaving Mug Hand Painted Flowers I don't know enough about shaving mugs to be able to date it precisely, but this unmarked heavy milk glass mug is definitely old and not a modern remake. I'm pretty sure post-1920s men did not prefer to have their shaving gear decorated with flowers. In addition, the glass is a little swirly and mottled, and more of a pale beige color than pure white. The mug is 3-1/2" high by 3-3/4" diameter at the rim. The front has a hand painted decoration of orange or faded red daisy type flowers with green leaves. There's a little fading to the painted design, not bad. No chips, flakes, or damage.

14555

1950s Plastic Trinket Dresser Box Sequin Rose Decoration This plastic dresser or vanity trinket box dates to the late 1940s or early 1950s. The bottom is semi-opaque pale pink with a swirled marble effect. The lid is clear with a diamond point center pattern, decorated with roses made from pink sequins, gold glass seed beads, and faux pearls. It measures 5-1/2 by 3-1/2 by about 1-1/2 inches high. Marked in-mold on the underside "Fosta Made in U.S.A. Des. Pat. Pend.". Small, pale spots of old glue are visible upon close inspection at the upper right and lower left corners of the lid center panel. No chips or breaks.

Click for more detail...

11554-4

1930s Enameled Pictorial Yellowstone Souvenir Powder Compact Beautiful late 1930s off-white enameled metal powder compact, a souvenir of Yellowstone National Park. The domed top has a dramatic colored picture of the Upper Falls of Yellowstone protected by a clear dome that looks and feels like glass but is probably celluloid or a similar plastic. Around the top of the image is "Souvenir of Yellowstone Nt'l Park", near the bottom is printed "Souvenir of Bozeman Mont.". The mirrored compact has never been used and has the original pink puff and metal sifter plate, and about a third of the original powder still inside. About 2-3/4 inches diameter, the compact is in excellent condition with no damage or wear aside from a few tiny age specks to the mirror and one pinpoint dot of enamel loss to the bottom (shown greatly enlarged in the last photo, it's barely visible in reality).

Click for more detail...

13876

Celluloid Bakelite 1920s Manicure Set in Leather Case A larger 12-piece Queen brand manicure set from the 1920s. The folding case is blue leather lined in royal blue silk with silk jacquard flaps and pocket. The woven blue and white ribbon is also silk. There are two non-original tools in French Ivory celluloid - a shoe button hook and the pick with the pusher end (not sure what it's called). The all-metal blackhead tool with spear tip is original, I've seen the exact same item in other Queen kits. The other implements are layered two-tone apple juice Bakelite and marbled yellow celluloid. There's a buffer, a button hook, a shoe horn, and several nail tools I can't name. One item is a handle only, whatever the metal part was is missing.

The shoe horn has a crack to the solid colored side which does not go all the way through (picture number 7). One of the small flat nail tools has the same issue with two cracks. Everything else, including the case, is clean and in very good condition. There are no tears or holes to the case or silk fabric.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 9961-4: Antique Pressed Glass Mirrored Dresser Vanity Tray

Click for more detail...

9961-4

Antique Pressed Glass Mirrored Dresser Vanity Tray This old pressed pattern glass oval mirrored dresser tray measures 14-1/4 by 8-1/2 inches with handles that slope gently upward. The pattern is a beaded bubble design with raised ovals encircled by rings of beads and a beaded or hobnail scalloped rim. The glass tray is in excellent condition with no chips, fleabites, or other damage. The mirror has loosened from the glass tray, which makes it easy to replace if desired. It has some ghosting and a drop of glue at the edge. There is a layer of very old, heavy black canvas type paper between the mirror and the tray that is glued down.

Apologies for my poor pictures. I find it difficult enough to photograph clear glass, and almost impossible when the glass is combined with a mirror. The tray looks fine in person, better than in the photos.

7035

Red and White Woven Plastic Covered Sewing or Hair Curlers Basket When I bought this retro 1960s red and white covered basket at a local estate auction, it was filled with hair rollers, curlers, and plastic hair picks. I think it would make an excellent sewing or crochet / knitting basket, or even a funky box purse.

The basket is 6-1/2" high to the top of the fully removable lid, about 9-1/2" high to the top of the handle, by 8" diameter. It's very strong and sturdy, made of red and white woven spaghetti plastic over a heavy wire frame. The handle is white plastic over rattan or bamboo wood. It's in excellent condition with no splits or tears anywhere. The only sign of wear or age of note is the top of the lid has some fading of the red color.

Circa: 1960s

Click for more detail...

9650

Lipstick Lady Figural Ceramic Vanity Lipstick Holder This lovely Southern Belle or Colonial style lady figurine typically sat on a lady's vanity and held tubes of lipstick at the base of her dress. The figurine is 6 inches high, wearing a long yellow dress with polka dots and a rust colored fading to white bodice with peplum. Her brunette hair is in a ponytail and her extended hands are raised below her neck.

The original label is missing but the book Kitchen, Bath & Beyond shows this same lipstick lady identified as being made by Commodore of Japan. There is an underglaze manufacturing flaw at the upper rim of one lipstick loop. The pottery has a scratch or rub mark in this area that is glazed over. The edge of one hand has a tiny fleabite chip along the little finger.

Click for more detail...

11607-2

Imperial Windmill Milk Glass Dresser Tray This scalloped edge oval milk glass vanity or dresser tray was made by Imperial Glass Company. The pattern is called Windmill, originally a 1912 carnival glass design. Imperial brought it back as a milk glass in 1950, and later brought it back again in modern carnival and slag glass.

The tray measures 9-3/4 by 6-3/4 inches. In the center is a Dutch windmill landscape scene in high relief, bordered by flowers and leaves. It's in perfect condition with no damage or wear. It is unmarked, which is appropriate to the 1950 production date. The original owner had the tray displayed as a wall decoration, so I will include the wall plate hanger it came with.

9866

1970s Unused Lighted Makeup Mirror Mint in Box This vintage 1970s "Best Ever" illuminated vanity make-up mirror has never been used and is mint in its original box. I took it out and plugged it in for the photos to show that it's in perfect condition and lights up fine. The electric cord is still wrapped in its original coil and the hang tag is still attached. The box has slight fading and minor shelf wear to the graphics but no tears or damage.

The mirror is 13 by 7-3/4 inches. It has an adjustable wire stand at the back, allowing you to tilt the mirror in the desired position. The oval mirror is two sided - one side is normal, the other flips to closeup or magnified view. There are two small round light bulbs at each side, operated by an on-off switch at the lower front of the mirror. Ideal for use or gift giving. Made in Hong Hong for B & E Sales Company of Detroit Michigan.
