The pennant is for the College of Idaho in Caldwell. It measures 29-1/2 inches in length (not including the streamer tails) by 11-1/2" high at the left side. Click for more detail...

15204

Elegant Lady Large Needlepoint Wall Tapestry Finished This lovely and large finished needlepoint wall tapestry depicts an elegant 19th century lady standing outdoors next to an architectural column. She wears a low cut green and pink ruffled dress with feathered green hat, and holds a feather fan. The face, neck and hands are worked in tiny petit point. Everything else is done in varied horizontal long stitches, giving the tapestry a light, airy appearance. The stitched design is 17-1/2 by 25 inches. The canvas itself measures 23 by 32 inches with plenty of framing room.

The stitch work is very well done with no snags, loose threads, or bunching. The canvas is clean with no stains, though it does have a faint, musty cedar chest odor. The large size necessitated my photographing it draped over my sofa due to lack of well lighted white wall space. The canvas is not stretched out and is properly squared. It is part of an estate purchase of more than 40 Mid Century European needlepoint canvases and is the only fully finished one in the collection.

2814

Vintage Embroidered Floral Linen Guest or Fingertip Towel Very pretty old white linen guest towel with a flower basket design across the bottom, embroidered in fine, tiny cross stitches. The towel measures 22" long by 15" wide. The hems at both ends are hand finished with a decorative pulled thread eyelet stitch. So much loving handwork for such a small household linen!

The towel is in excellent condition with no stains, tears, or stitching damage. I didn't press it before taking the pictures, but the towel will be shipped freshly laundered and pressed.

Circa: 1920s - 1930s
Country of Origin: US
Manufacturer: Handmade vintage needlework

Click for more detail...

6515

1940 Salesman Sample Embroidered Dutch Boy Fingertip Guest Towel This rare embroidered birdseye cotton guest or fingertip towel was a pre-war salesman or store sample for Wonder Art, makers of stamped embroidery linens. The 16" by 22" towel has an embroidered cross stitch design of a Dutch boy with potted tulips and a fence or rail background done in orange-red and two shades of blue. The scalloped hem is finished with white crocheted lace edging.

A sturdy cardboard paper tag is stapled to a lower corner of the towel which reads "Trade-Mark Wonder Art, Sample Model No. 372, Not For Sale, Worked With Perlene Embroidery Cotton". Stamped in red on the tag is the date Jul 15 1940. The towel has no holes or tears but there is some light soiling near the design area and along the fold lines. Apologies for the bad, shaky pictures.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 16297: Shabby Rose Spray Framed Needlepoint Picture 16 by 22

Click for more detail...

16297

Shabby Rose Spray Framed Needlepoint Picture 16 by 22 This framed needlepoint picture is very vintage, with an old fashioned, slightly shabby appeal. It measures 16-1/2" high by 22-1/2 inches wide, with a flower embossed 1-1/2 inch wood frame painted cream color frame.

The hand stitched needlepoint features a spray of pale gold and red-pink roses, with little blue and white flowers and green leaves. The background is done in grayish moss green. It was likely glued to the backing board, as the wool is a bit starchy or stiff, but it doesn't affect the appearance. The frame is a bit chippy, nothing serious as you can see. A twisted piano wire hanger runs the width of the back.

Circa: 1930

Manufacturer: Pre War American Production

Click for more detail...

9422

Pair Oval Renaissance Couple Needlepoint Pictures A matched set of old fashioned oval needlepoint pictures worked in wool on canvas. One depicts an early Colonial or Renaissance era woman seated in a garden and playing a lute or mandolin, a swan listens at her feet. The other is a similarly dressed man in a similar garden setting, his dog at his side. Both the man and woman have their faces and arms worked in tiny petit point stitches, allowing for finer detail of the facial features. The canvases have pinkish-taupe backgrounds and are entirely stitched by hand, they are not fill-in-the-background pre-worked canvases.

The very nice gilt and cream gesso-over composition frames are 12 inches high by 10 inches wide and have no glass. The backs are covered in brown paper and have twisted piano wire hangers. The frames have only very slight age wear, no chips or damage, and the stitchery is in good condition. Price is for the pair.

Circa: 1930s
