T33826

Butcher Tanged Mortise Chisel 5/32 inch This is a nice clean antique 5/32" (.16") wide x 9.5" long tanged heavy duty mortise chisel marked "W. BUTCHER" on the steel. The steel length alone is 3.75". Perhaps the best quality tool steel available in the late 1800's, this is a fine example. It came with a group of 19th century English chisels that I purchased together, with the British export symbols also marked on the steel opposite the maker's mark (a circle logo with a arrow with the point, pointing at an + shaped symbol). Nice quality cast steel, good solid hardwood handle, sharp and ready to use. The handle is very solid with a few dings, a slight grain separation noted but is not cracked to the end or ferrule.

GREAT WESTERN Hand-Saw Crosscut 7 TPI This is a rare antique crosscut hand saw marked "GREAT WESTERN" on the blade etch that can be seen but is rather lite. This is a good useable saw with a good straight blade, no missing teeth, the teeth are sharp, and the handle fits well to the blade. The handle is also in very nice shape, no cracks, and has only two brass screws holding it in place and no medallion screw. The straight back blade is 25.3" long and has 7 teeth per inch, or 7 TPI. There is some minor pitting noted on the blade, nothing that would cause issues with use. We also note the nib on the straight back, a sign of being a mid to late 1800's antique hand-saw.

Click for more detail...

T35307

Goodell Bros. Spiral Screwdriver Ca. 1890's This is a very rare tool manufactured in the 1890's in Greenfield Mass! This slot bit screwdriver is 11.3" long fully extended, 7.3" long closed and locked in a stationary position, without the bit in the chuck. This one is in good useable condition, with one 1/4?; wide slot bit included. The middle brass ferrule is marked "GOODELL BROS. GREENFIELD MASS. PATENT JULY 22, 1890 NOV. 17, 1891". Goodell Bros. continued manufacturing until 1899 when they became Goodell-Pratt. This is a unique design with a good solid wood handle, that has some wear, dings and scratches, some tiny specks of orange paint, but still looks nice, well attached. The spiral feature is in nice shape, works good, is straight and turns smoothly in the clockwise driving direction only, hence screwdriver and not un-driver. The bit is removable, held in place very tightly with a good collet type screw chuck. Overall a very nice clean too. One of the first we have seen in this nice of condition!

Click for more detail...

T33686

Peck, Stow, & Wilcox Carpenters Ratchet Brace 12 inch This is a very nice, clean, late 1800's patented ratchet hand brace, and it has a 12" swing. It is marked with 2 patent dates, one is "PAT.FEB.11.1879" (stamping is a little lite, but can be seen), and the other is "PAT. FEB.10.1884". It is also marked "P.S.& W. CO. NO. 0101" basically a number used by P.S.& W. (PECK, STOW, & WILCOX), These early patents we believe to be for the unique flip lever ratchet control system. With both spring loaded levers are in the position shown in the pictures, it is in the locked position, flip one or the other for forward or reverse ratchet, the system is very dependable, and works great on this brace as well. The chuck is in good condition with nice heavy duty, spring loaded 2 jaw inserts, in good+ condition, the knurled part of the chuck or the chuck sleeve is steel with very little wear, a few scratches on the knurled area, very good jaws, and they hold the bits very well! The head turns smoothly, capped with a very nice rosewood handle, and the crank handle matches it very well in both condition and appearance, only minor wear noted, some small dings and scratches, looks very nice, no crack or damage. The condition is very good overall, with little wear overall. The sweep handle is also rosewood, and in very nice condition. In really good working condition overall. A quality made brace, still in great shape, nice looking too!
Circa: Late 1800's
Condition: Good++

Click for more detail...

T32203

E.C. Atkins Rip Hand Rip Saw 5-1/2 TPI Patent 1887 This is a very nice clean rarely seen Atkins 5 1/2 teeth per inch rip saw! It has the "E.C. ATKINS & COMPANY INDIANAPOLIS" etch on the blade (the complete etch wording can be seen), and the "E.C. ATKINS & CO INDIANAPOLIS IND. PAT. DEC. 27.1887 AAA" mark and logo on the handle medallion. This is a very nice quality saw, sharp and set, ready to use condition, with no rust, some minor staining noted, some minor pitting noted on less than 2% of the total metal surface area, and a nice straight 26" long blade. The blade is straight and clean, smooth. However, we do note that there are 3 missing teeth, in the area just in front of the handle. I have tested this saw, and it will cut very well with the 18" length of full teeth in it’s present condition. The handle is very nice with the original varnish about 90% intact overall, and a nice floral leaf type carved pattern on the medallion side. It has good handle nuts, and no cracks, no chips, very little wear, about as nice as any I've seen from the late 1800's era. The handle alone is worth my asking price since we see so few in anywhere near this nice of condition. I had considered having the teeth re-cut, as I do have a man with a machine to do it, but he says that these 1800’s saw were more brittle, and recommends several re-sharpenings to reach the full teeth once again, in other word, you can use the saw as it is since you could A really nice saw, so rarely seen in this nice condition these days.

Circa: Late 1800's
Condition: Good

Click for more detail...

T33474

Millers Falls Miter Box Langdon No. 74C Acme Mitre This is a very nice, heavy duty, all metal mitre (miter) box that was originally made by Millers Falls and is the same as a few that we have sold in the past that where marked "MILLERS FALLS CO. LANGDON ACME MITER BOX 74C MADE IN U.S.A. GREENFIELD MASS." on the metal tag in the front, center saw support column. Instead, this miter box is marked "CRAFTSMAN MITER BOX NO. 3650 MADE IN U.S.A. PATENTED" on it's metal tag label that is located in the same place as the Millers Falls model mentioned. About 90% of the tag is intact, readable. This model has several quality features, it is believed to be the top of the line Millers Falls model. The features include independently adjustable saw guides, adjustable depth stops on both saw guide posts, Both hand saw guides have spring loaded raise position locks (to hold the saw in the upward position while placing work on the table) one of the two is working, the other is missing the spring and the lock part, but the saw can be held in the up position with just one that it has. The saw guide system is all in great shape, adjustable front saw guide support can be adjusted outward to increase the span between the two saw support columns (shown in the pictures in the closed or shortest span position). The angle set system has automatic spring loaded lock for 0, 9, 15, 22, 30, and 45 degrees angles, up to 45 degrees angle in either direction, and also has the pull lever action brake (underside of box) for holding in place in any other angles (works in conjuction with the wing nut on the underside to tighten or snug the angle assembly). There is a angle scale on the top graduations in one degree on this model. This mitre box also has workpiece stops, two clamps for each end supplied, one wing screw and stop rod also included. As you can see the mitre box has some paint stains, and missing paint, about 85% paint intact, otherwise no damage, all the original hardware seems to be on it, (Note: One missing extended depth stop and screw is missing. This stop would be only when you are not cutting completely through the work piece, and wish to set a stop to stop at a certain distance off the table. One of the short depth stops, the one on the back pillar appears to be a not original replacement, but is suitable for finish depth control). All parts are clean, not rusty, no damage, in very good working order. We did note some minor surface rust on the underside of the red paint table plating which can be seen from the underside of the box. The feet have holes to mount this unit down on your workbench. One of the best quality mitre boxes ever made! Weight is 25 pounds unpacked mitre box only. The distance between hand saw support shaft centers as shown is 10.5". the table is 20" long x 4.5" wide, and the back rail is 3.6" tall. The hand saw in some of the pictures, is included in the price. The condition of the saw is good++, clean, with good sharp teeth, no rust, no damage, straight not bent up, some minor staining, and some tiny areas of pitting, none effecting the teeth or use of the saw, very clean overall. The saw blade alone is 28" long, one of the longest miter saws I have seen, most likely made by Atkins but is not marked by the maker. The saw is marked "WARRENTED SUPERIOR" on the medallion. The saw handle is also clean, with good nickel plated brass hardware, one very minor hairline crack on one side of the handle area only, not effecting handle fit to the blade or use of the saw, minimal wear. The saw is 36" long overall, the full blade is 28". It fits the mitre box nicely, and is a very nice length for a good match, most likely originally with this mitre box when new. Overall a very nice, antique mitre box, by a well known maker!

Click for more detail...

T34346

Millers Falls No. 8 Spiral Push Drill Rare! This is a very rare spiral push drill from the early 1900's! It is marked "MILLERS FALLS CO. MILLERS FALLS MASS. NO. 8 PAT. DEC.7.09" and also has fractional marking on the handle for each size drill bit it holds. There is a total of 8 Yankee style drill bits included (the same as North Bros. and Stanley used), all in sharp ready to use, to new condition. There is 9 spaces to store bits in the handle, one is marked "SD" and we understand this model was offered with a slot head screwdriver tip original, is included with this offer.  This model can only drive screw as it has no reverse function. Millers Falls designed and manufactured several different push drill models over the years, this is one of the most rare! It is shorter than the Yankee 41, and measures 7.0" long, and a bit over 1.5" of stroke. The spring and spiral system is working very well, and has a little bit of play wear the handle fits on the spiral shaft, not bad, but more than some of the other models.  There is a knurled sleeve that is mounted to the end of the handle at the point where the spiral shaft enters that does rotate as if it had some sort of function, but I have no idea what it did or was intended to do, but turning it as far as it will go in either direction has no effect on the movement of the spiral system at all.  The nickel plating is about 60% intact, most of the brass showing through on the spiral area that moves in and out. The chuck is a screw chuck type, and holds the Yankee style bits just fine. These are the bits with the shank flat and notch design. A very nice, rare tool! It's only the 3rd one we have seen in the past 10 years!
Circa: early 1900's

Click for more detail...

T35628

Craftsman Yankee Spiral Push Drill w/7 Bits This is a nice clean, unique Spiral push drill marked "CRAFTSMAN MADE IN U.S.A." . It features 8 compartments on an rotary index in the handle that have a total of 7 different sized drills in them (from 5/64"-11/64"). This model push drill has a heavy, solid main section of the handle, with a molded plastic rotary end cap. The metal section of the handle is in good shape, with about 40% of the original blue paint intact, a small area w/red paint on it. The rotary end cap is in great shape, it has a spring loaded release lever on the side, and a place for each of the 8 sizes of drill points in a full set. There is a number and fractional size for each drill on the side of the handle next to the storage hole where each of the drill point should be stored. Of the 7 different sizes of drills included with this push drill, all in very good used to new condition. The push drill is quite nice with about 95% of the nickel plating intact, very nicely polished, a few very minor scratches, none effect the smooth spring loaded movement or use of this tool. All the plastic is in good study condition, not cracked. Basically much like the North Brothers Yankee push drill in function, a few ounces heavier, and is 9" long overall. This push drill uses the + shaped shank drill bits, and not the Yankee bits. This style has a likeness to the Goodell-Pratt, or Millers Falls push drill with most of it's features, and we believe it was made by Millers Falls. A very nice streamlined or bullet shape! Works great, with a good spring and good working screw chuck. A Nice clean function tool!
