1962 BSA Explorer Program Quarterly
This is the Summer, 1962 issue of EXPLORER PROGRAM QUARTERLY, a magazine for leaders of Explorer posts of the Boy Scouts of America. Included are Suggested Summer Activities for Explorers, including:
June: Be an Astronaut (fitness standards and practice); Dad-and-Son Golf (driving contest, pitch and putt, bingo golf, hole in one, approach and putting contest and one ball); and Fiesta (atmosphere, recipes, costumes for outdoor post party).
July: Mixed Teams Tournament (choosing partners, conducting the contests, setting up activities, supper); Fishing and Outboard Safety (preparation, cast off, rules of the road, fishing safety, rescues); Stones and Bones (exploring geological history of area).
August: Family Camping Demo (planning, packing and transportation, living and sleeping area, cooking and eating area, lengthy equipment list); Trail Survey (facilities, special features, hazards, time schedule, reports); Sponsorsville (projects to thank post sponsors).
There’s an article, too, for representatives to the FIRST National Explorer Delegate Conference in Michigan. Another describes trips, projects of local posts; with a final article detailing the planning and implementation of a post vocational exposition.
The back cover advertises books for Scouting projects and programs; the inside back cover has ads for tents.
