Copyrighted in 1936 by the H.H. Bennett Studio, this 32-page color brochure features color photos and text about the historical Wisconsin Dells. Each of the 27 photo images is identified and the text details the area's Geology, American Indian background and History.

The 5.5- by 8.5-inch brochure is beautiful! It is in As New condition with only slight age-discoloration on edges of first and last page edges. There are no other apparent defects, inside or out.

1950s Quebec Historical Guides

This little (4-inch by 6-inch) booklet is titled ‘Your Own Car is the best Sight-Seeing vehicle, so Why Not Use It with one of the QUEBEC HISTORICAL GUIDES. It was published by the Provincial Tourist Bureau in Quebec.

In its 16 pages is information on interesting stops to be made on the Quebec City Tour; a short history of Quebec; a list of official members of the Tourist Homes Association; and a full-page listing of rates and tour options.

Many black/white photos of the city are included, as is a two-page map of the city on the centerfold. There are many, many ads for local businesses catering to tourists – restaurants, cafes, hotels, souvenir shops, tobacco/candy stores, and a shop that sold Irish, Italian and Spanish linens.

The booklet is in Good+ condition with some minor edge/corner wear. A neat view of 1950s Quebec! (4810)

This neat little spiral bound folder holds ten Plastichrome reproductions of postcards from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Each color photo measures 2.75 by 3.75 inches and is on its own page.

Identification on the back is in both English and French. A short history of Montreal appears on the inside back cover. Publisher is Benjamin News Company, Montreal. There is no date, but it was with other items purchased by a tourist in 1956.

Views here include Royal Canadian Mounted Police; St. James Cathedral; Notre Dame Church; Saint Joseph Oratory; Botanical Gardens; La Fontaine Park; The Cross on Mount Royal; Observation Car near the Wax Museum; Old French Horsedrawn Carriage; View of the city skyline.

Erected by His Majesty King George III and consecrated to the Holy Trinity on August 28th, 1804, The English Cathedral of Quebec is described in this neat 6.25-inch by 14-inch folder published in the 1950s.


History, service times, clergy and the diocese are featured, with black/white photos of the altar, building exterior and Rundell and Bridge silver communion plate from 1804.

’Visit the Musee Historique Inc. Wax Museum’ reads the heading on this fascinating brochure from Quebec, Canada. Shown in seven black/white photos are many of the Historical scenes of Canada and United States in Life Size, which make up the popular tourist attraction.

Among the personalities featured in wax are Benjamin Franklin, Montcalm, Dollard des Ormeaux, Christopher Columbus and General Wolfe.

This is a promotional brochure for The Clarendon Hotel, Quebec’s Distinguished Hotel Home. Printed in the 1950s, it shows black/white photos and describes the hotel’s 200 guest rooms (175 with bath), foyer and lounge, air conditioned dining-room and coffee shop.

Other features are the basement tavern and the cocktail room. A map shows the hotel’s location in the city of Quebec.

Here is the 9.5 by 27-inch brochure advertising Quebec Gray Line Sightseeing Motor Coach Tours, operated by the Quebec Railway, Light and Power Company in Quebec, Canada. Included are tours of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, Montmorency Falls, the City of Quebec and the Island of Orleans.

The history of each site, as well as the tour itinerary, are listed here, along with some great black/white photos of the locations. Tour starting points, length and fares are shown. It’s quite impressive for a 1950s era publication! The text is printed in French on one side of the folder, with English on the opposite side.

With the center section filled with advertising for local businesses (department store, gift shop, grocery, textiles, sportswear, hotels, cafes, restaurants, cocktail lounge and more), this is a folder advertising Official Blue Band Sightseeing Tours of Quebec.

Promoting itself as Quebec’s oldest and most experienced organization of ex-servicemen with professors and university students acting as official guides and chauffeurs, the tours include a City Tour, St.-Anne de Beaupre Tour, Lake Beauport and the Island of Orleans.

A map of the city appears on the back, with inside black/white photos of many of the sites. It measures about 8.5 by 15 inches and was published in the 1950s.

Saint Joseph’s Oratory Exhibition, Quebec

The Exhibition in honour of Saint Joseph at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal, Quebec Canada is a wonderful 52-page booklet with details of the tourist site that boasted more than 3 million pilgrims and visitors each year.

It was inaugurated in July, 1955 by the Archbishop of Montreal and included an extensive collection of artworks and other items related to St. Joseph.

The booklet contains a lengthy dated listing and description of the collection in the Exhibition’s Historical Section, Regional Sanctuaries, Garden of Fiorettis, Religious Communities under the Patronage of St. Joseph, St. Joseph in the Field of Art, and Earthly Life of St. Joseph. It’s a fascinating record!
