Irving Amen (b. 1918; Boca Raton, FL) Gorgeous, large (23½" x 19") serigraph: "Gift of Love". Numbered ("253/275"), titled, signed and dated ("Amen '78") with pencil across the bottom margin; unframed and unmatted. An unusual and beautiful piece by a highly respected 20th century artist. Born in New York City, Amen began drawing at the young age of four. By the time he was fourteen years old, he won a scholarship to the Pratt Institute. He emulated Michelangelo's masterpieces and spent years perfecting his own unique style. He had his first exhibition in New York at the New School for Social Research and the at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. He then studied in Paris where he had one-man shows in painting, woodcut and sculpture. Travels throughout Israel, Greece and Turkey in 1960 led to a retrospective at the Artists House in Jerusalem. A positive attitude, love of mankind, and religious backgroud emanate from his work.

Dorothy Bartholomew (1908-1997; Newport, NH) "Rooster"; serigraph. Signed below; unmatted and unframed (11" x 8"). Bartholomew, whose works (especially woodcuts - see Miscellaneous Woodblock Prints for examples) are just now emerging posthumously, studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and in Europe. She lived most of her life in NH, exhibiting widely and receiving numerous awards, and opened the first art gallery in Newport. Her work emphasized New Enland and religious themes and is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and Pennsylvania Academy.

William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854; Britain) Hand-colored engraving, titled "Cape Blowmedon (sic) and Parrsboro" (4¾" x 7"). The scene depicted by this well-known artist is off Cape Blowmidon, which separates the Midas Channel from the Midas Basin in the Bay of Fundy - site of the world's highest tides. The print is in excellent condition and is tastefully double matted (O.D. = 11 x 14"). Across the bottom are the names of Bartlett and the engraver ("R. Brandard") along with the title. Louis Bastin (1912-1979; Sweden) Colored etching of a "Blue Boy" (11" x 5¾"; O.D. = 18½" x 13"). Pencil-numbered ("30/100") and -signed across the bottom. Ca. 1950s with the title and a certificate of authenticity by the American Associated Artists verso. Listing: Dav. Louis Bastin was born in 1912 in Moscow. His father came from France and his mother came from a Dutch family who had been living in Moscow since Napoleon. Bastin left Russia before the first World War and became a Swede at the age of seven. After school and college in Sweden he was thrown into an artistic career by the well known writer, Albert Engstrom, who said: "Try to become an artist, young man, you are no good for anything else." Bastin went to Paris and studied under Marcel Gromaire. He spent much of his time visiting the Louvre studying the masters. By 1960, Bastin was one of Sweden's foremost artists and one of the deans of printmaking. He exhibited in all the major capitals of Europe as well as the United States and South America
