2232

Shelley Bone China Tea Cup & Saucer Pink Floral Scalloped Rim Roses Lovely vintage Shelley Tea Cup & Saucer Set, two piece set. We don't know the pattern name, but this is a dainty floral design including pink roses and other multi-color flowers with green leaves & stems. This has a pink line trim or edging with pink on the elegantly upward curved cup side handle.

Fully marked on underside base of each piece with Shelley logo having England below and Fine Bone China above this. There are two partial red marks on the underside of the saucer (one may be the number "2"), with three red marks on the underside cup base (these numbers may be "7", "A7" and "174 something").

Clean white bone china base for these pieces, made of porcelain as they are translucent. Pretty scalloped rim for both pieces, with molded lines or ridges corresponding with the scalloping. Saucer curves upwards from lowered circular center. Saucer measures 5 6/8 inches in diameter and sits 3/4 inch in height. Cup stands about 2 3/8 inches in height to top of side handle, 3 7/16 inches top opening diameter, about 1 1/2 inches smaller base diameter. Together this highly collectible teacup & saucer stands about 2 1/2 inches in height and weighs about 6 1/2 ounces unpacked.

We've provided multiple images to show from differing angles, including the manufacturer markings. Please note that the camera lighting makes white "hot spot" reflections on the high shine glossy surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition, ready to use or display. No chips, cracks, crazing or major flaws. We are not sure if these pieces were ever used, they are very clean. Looking very closely at an angle in bright light, we do see some stray small tiny surface scratches on the center of the saucer but these may be from cleaning, the cup sitting or general handling, we don't know, and it is possible there is some other light wear to these pieces, but nothing at all to worry about. The underside cup base shows some darkening from age, as expected.

We have listed a number of other cups & saucers for sale, as well as other items. If you are interested in more than one, please contact us before inputting the order. We'd be pleased to combine multiple items for shipment in one box, if possible, to save you on postage. The system won't automatically combine shipping, and will quote as if each item is shipped separately. We would be happy to provide the combined shipping costs for you.

Click for more detail...

2229

Vintage Royal Crown Derby Olde Avesbury Trinket Cigarette Box Lid Only Lovely lid for the Royal Crown Derby Olde Avesbury pattern box, trinket box or cigarette box. This is a vintage piece which came out of a home and they had the lid only, no base, but perhaps you are looking for a lid or to replace the lid for a base that you already own.

Topside this has the lovely pattern of birds in a tree along with flowers, branches & leaves, done largely in earth tone colors of brown, yellow, red, green & pink with gold line trim around the outer top edge. This lid is slightly domed, curving upward from the sides, measuring about 1/2 inch in total height at the highest part when sitting flat on a table. The lid is a rounded rectangular shape with curved corners and has a smaller, lowered base rim to fit nicely into the base of the box. This looks to have been made with a brown transfer design having hand painting for the other colored and gold areas.

About 4 1/4 inches in length and 3 11/16 inches in width for the longest, upper portion measurements. The inner lower base is about 3 11/16 inches in greatest length and 3 1/8 inches in width. This vintage box lid piece is porcelain or bone china as it is translucent. It is a nice white base china, fully white on the underside. Weighs about 3 ounces unpacked.

The under base is fully marked with the Royal Crown Derby logo, under which it states "Made in England" and the pattern name, "Olde Avesbury". There are two nearby markings in a dark orangey red color, one is only a partial mark while the second seems to be "A13" or "A73" with a red "X" underneath.

We've provided 8 images to show from different angles and close-ups, including of the manufacturer marking. Please note that the camera light creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth china surfaces, you can see these move across the different images. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Wonderful condition, with the top surface and sides in excellent shape with no major flaws. We do note one small chip on the underside, inner box rim, in the upper left corner on our underside images, about 1/8 inch greatest width. This is hard to see on the image shot with the camera light, so the last image is shot without the light to try and help you see this small inner chip better. It is not a big deal, nothing anyone will see in use or on display, but you should know this is there. No other chips, cracks, crazing, scratches, major color loss that we can see, with the colored painting and gold lines in great shape. There are some pit/pin dots in the porcelain as made. Tucked into the underside inner lower edges/corners is some dirt and dust along with a brown pin dot, so this could use a gentle cleaning. It is possible this has some slight other wear due to age, handling and cleaning, but nothing we see nor believe is a problem.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 1197: 1920s/30s German Small Bowl with Calla Lilies

Click for more detail...

1197

1920s/30s German Small Bowl with Calla Lilies Lovely small porcelain bowl often called a fruit bowl size, but perfect for serving after dinner mints, chocolates or other small items, and just attractive on display. Marked "Germany" both printed on the underside base and impressed here, indicating the bowl was made prior to World War II, likely in the 1920's or 1930's, our guess. What is impressive is the great interior decor of two Calla Lilies in bloom with orange centers and stems and leaves in white and green, with the lustre coating often seen in this period. The exterior is plain white.

Small round bowl has ornate floral petal type edging and measures a bit over 5 inches in diameter topside, with a smaller round base measuring 2 9/16 inches in diameter. We've provided 5 images; please allow time to load and note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. While the German manufacturer is not indicated on this vintage piece, it has the same great look as other pieces we've seen made by R. S. Tillowitz and some of the other fine antique German china manufacturers.

Wonderful look and condition but does have some minor flaws, nothing unexpected for an old piece of this age. There is some interior scratching, not bad but there, with some of it on the leaf and stem decor, as well as some stray spots/dots/wear. There is some wear/color fading on the stems and florals (again not bad, but there), with color lustre wear on the molded interior ridges to the bowl. The bowl top rim may originally have had a darker line or gold edging...almost all of this is gone but the dots/spots of dark coloring/gold that are left in places along the rim suggest that this was once here. Along the rim edge there is one of these gold spots that may be a minor tiny flake, we're not sure, but certainly not bad. On the underside, on the side of the base rim there is one tiny chip but this is not very noticeable and won't be seen sitting on a table. There is other expected age wear to the underside (pin/pit dots) and wear to the rim itself on which this sits, including some tiny, tiny wear/flakes.

Not mint but a very attractive look, which would make a great gift for a gardener or anyone who loves calla lilies (calla lily). When we look at this bowl, we are reminded of the nifty scene with the great Katherine Hepburn in the 1930's movie, "Stage Door", when she makes an entrance in a Broadway play with the line, "The Calla Lilies are in bloom, again..."

Click for more detail...

1725

Vintage Hammersley China Sugar & Creamer, T. Goode & Co., London Beautiful china open sugar & creamer set made by Hammersley China. These vintage pieces are bone china or porcelain and are translucent. We do not know the name of this pattern, and the name does not appear on the underside bases of these pieces near the manufacturer marking. But from some internet research, the pattern looks very similar to Hammersley's Dresden Sprays pattern (but we don't know whether these were pieces sold as part of that pattern or not). The intricate multi-colored floral design with gold line trim looks very similar to that pattern. However, these old pieces may be different from that pattern in two respects. First, they have a basket weave pattern molded into the porcelain beneath the lowest gold line trim and extending to their lower bases, which we are not sure occurs in other Dresden Sprays pieces. Second, they have an elegant smooth curved line to their upper rims, rather than having a fluted, wavy upper rim.

Both porcelain pieces are marked on the underside bases in green with the Hammersley crown mark around which is stated, "Hammersley & Co. Bone China, Made in England". Below this in green is a different crown under which it says "T. Goode & Co., Ltd., London", so we believe Hammersley made these pieces for T. Goode & Co., to be sold in their retail store. Given this, it may be that T. Goode requested Hammersley to make a line for them which was similar to the Dresden Sprays pattern but not identical (as we've seen other manufacturers do for other retail stores), but again, we don't know that for certain.

Open sugar measures 4 1/4 inches x 3 inches and stands about 2 1/8 inches in height. The creamer has a nifty upward curved handle, creating a greatest height of about 2 3/4 inches, with a greatest width of about 4 inches and depth of 2 1/2 inches. We've provided 9 images to try and show from all sides, including close-ups of the pattern and the manufacturer marking. Please use the close-up feature for in-depth inspection. Also, please note that the camera lighting creates white "hot spots" on the glossy glazed surfaces of these pieces, including creating what looks like "white spots" on the gold line trim (but the trim is in great shape here, with only one or two minor spots of wear on the side body of these pieces, and not along the upper rims).

Wonderful condition with no major flaws. No chips, cracks, crazing. These came out of a home and likely were used but show no major wear problems. On very close inspection, in bright light when held at an angle, there are some small light scratches, tiny rubbed spots and other very minor wear, with some stray dots of gold paint and a few pin/pit dots in the porcelain, but nothing to worry about here. Gold lines and trim in great shape, with a few spots of tiny wear. Transfer design and coloring also have a few spots of tiny wear, but again no major issues. Lovely pieces.

Would make an elegant addition to any collection of Hammersley China or a general china collection focusing specifically on sugars & creamers. These are also in terrific shape to use and could make your entertaining or daily morning tea or coffee into something special.

Click for more detail...

1221

Coalport China Kings Ware Canton Demitasse Cup and Saucer A A lovely demitasse cup and saucer set made by Coalport, England as part of their Kings Ware line in the Canton pattern. We originally had 4 cup & saucer sets in this listing but have only one of these left. You will also see separately listed for sale another cup and saucer set (listed separately due to a tiny bit of damage to this set) and an extra single demitasse cup (with no matching saucer). All of these pieces came out of the same home of a relative, who had received them years ago from another relative. All pieces are marked on the underside bases with the Coalport Porcelain Works crown and the words, "Coalport, England, A.D. 1750., Kings Ware, Canton." Based on this mark, these pieces were made between about 1891 and 1920. The Coalport Company, which is in Shropshire, England, is now part of the Wedgwood Group of china manufacture.

While referred to as china, these pieces are not porcelain as they are not translucent. They are pottery pieces or may be what is referred to as soft paste pieces, we are not sure. The base pottery color is white, appearing a bit off-white rather than a bright white. They have a lovely intricate black line pattern with hand-painted multi-colored highlights in red, green, blue and yellow and a hand-painted light brown line trim on the outer edge of the saucer and on the top rim and handle of the cup. The design interweaves flowers and leaves with a geometric motif including a Japanese pagoda-style building. This oriental-reminiscent style is often seen on these Victorian ceramic pieces, which are also referred to as transferware and Aesthetic Movement pieces. The transferware relates to the transferring of the intricate designs (the black line design here) onto the base china/ceramic pieces via a series of dots as one would do in printing, rather than hand-painting the full design. On the underside base of each piece there are some letters and numbers painted in a single color which would indicate to the manufacturer the individual who later applied the hand colored details.

Each antique cup and saucer sits about 2 1/2 inches in height. The round saucers flare upwards slightly from a smaller round base, with a top diameter of 4 inches and an underside base diameter of about 1 1/2 inches. The cup itself is about 2 inches in height, is straight-sided with a top opening diameter slightly wider than the base at 2 inches for the top and 1 7/8 inches for the base. Greatest width from the outside of the curved handle to the opposite side is about 2 3/4 inches. We have provided 8 images to show from all sides, cup and saucer separately, and close-up of the mark. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflections from the camera on the glossy surfaces. This lighting also "blands" out the colors a bit, making the base china appear a brighter white than it is in person and the colored highlighting less bold and dramatic than it is in person. These pieces look more lovely in person than we could show with our camera.

While showing images of just one of the original four cup and saucer sets, all are in similar lovely overall condition. These pieces all have crazing, with the amount of crazing varying. The cups generally show more crazing than the saucers. There are no major chips or cracks. On the saucers we do see one or a few very tiny rim flakes, but nothing major. All of the saucers seem to have a small round spot on the underside to which the top glazing layer has not adhered. Our guess is that this may be where the piece was held by some implement when the glazing was applied, leaving this area unglazed and looking whiteish (you can see this in one image, this is not a chip). There are stray black dots, some black smearing from the transfer process, some incomplete or worn transfer areas, etc., with this seen more on the cups than the saucers, with some of this visible on the interior bottom of the cup which must have been a difficult place for applying the transfer (there is an intricate pagoda building on the interior bottom of each cup). There are some stray small scratches and some design/painting wear on the pieces, but nothing bad. These pieces are in remarkably good shape for their age.

A neat addition to any collection of Victorian ceramics or Aesthetic Movement pieces, a collection of Coalport china or demitasse cups and saucers in general, or a collection of this exquisite Canton pattern.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2218: Vintage Wedgwood China Columbia Demitasse Cup & Saucer Bond Green

Click for more detail...

2218

Vintage Wedgwood China Columbia Demitasse Cup & Saucer Bond Green Attractive vintage Wedgwood Bone China demitasse cup & saucer in the Columbia pattern. We believe the shape of this cup with its straight, flat sides is called the bond shape. We have just one of these cup & saucer sets and no other pieces of this pattern, as received out of a home.

Clean, crisp white bone china, these pieces are porcelain as they are translucent. They are decorated with an elegant floral and winged bird/creature, along with an intertwining scrolled design and other lining and green edging. The creatures and scrolled designs are in a yellow and brown coloring, with the flowers in pink, purple, blue, yellow & green.

Fully marked on the underside bases of each piece with the Wedgwood urn insignia in black along with "Wedgwood, Bone China, Made in England". There are also some letters and numbers in colored paint, along with what we think is the pattern number "W595".

Round saucer measures 4 3/4 inches in diameter with a lowered center section and broad flat shoulders, sitting about 9/16 inch in height. The cup alone sits about 2 1/4 inches in height with an upwardly curved side handle. Greatest width with the handle is about 3 1/8 inches, with a top opening diameter of 2 1/4 inches. Together these pieces sit about 2 1/2 inches in height and weigh slightly over 6 ounces unpacked.

We've provided multiple images to show varied sides and some close-ups. Please note that the camera causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glossy surfaces and at times "blands" out some of the detail, particularly with the white base color. So we've included a few images shot without the camera light. These appear darker but can help to show some detail better. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. These pieces do not look used as we don't see scratches or use wear, but we can't guarantee that. It does look to us like the brown scroll design areas and the yellow on the winged creatures have some wear/paint wear, as these do not always look as full in color or line as we would expect, but we think this could be from handling/washing over time, or perhaps as made, we don't know. There are a few pin dots of white in the green paint trim which could be dots of wear or as made also. Still nothing you would notice on display or in use. The underside of the saucer has one spot that is not fully glazed as made.

2100

Vintage Schumann China Arzberg Germany Purple Violets Vase Flowers Lovely vintage small china vase with purple violets design. Perfect for violets or other small flowers groupings.

Flared shape in white base china with gold line trim and transfer design of small purple violets with yellow centers & green leaves. There is a larger grouping of the violet flowers on one side of the vase with 3 stray violets along the other sides.

Stands 4 inches tall with 3 1/2 inch diameter across the top opening and 2 1/4 inches diameter across the underside base. Weighs slightly over 6 ounces unpacked.

Fully marked on underside base with Schumann China logo having a crown, shield & lion, under which states "Schumann Arzberg Germany" and nearby the number "26" in green.

We've provided 8 images to show all sides and close-ups of the larger violet grouping. Please note that the camera light causes white "hot spot" reflections on the glossy surface. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a touch of wear to the top gold line trim on the top rim in three places (nothing bad, the other 3 gold lines are great and the gold on this piece overall is 98% still there and fine). As made there are some stray gold & dark lines from the gold line painting (which was likely hand applied), visible on the front flower side of the vase near the base. There is other slight age/storage/wear, including some stray brown dots (on the interior of the vase) and darkening on the underside base rim on which this old vase sits, but nothing bad at all.

Click for more detail...

1457

Antique Nippon China 3 Piece Condiment with Lid & Spoon, Rising Sun Mk Neat little condiment server complete with lid and hard to find spoon (in one piece and great shape). Antique Nippon China fully marked with the Hand Painted Nippon blue "Rising Sun" mark. This is an original Nippon piece made between 1890 and 1921, although we do not know exactly when during that period it was made. This type of piece is often referred to as a condiment or mustard server, but could be used for any type of food addition handled via a small spoon.

White base porcelain (this piece is translucent) with cream colored paint near the top or outer edge (on the base piece and lid), highlighted with gold line trimming which has a raised line motif in spots including gold line trim on the side handle and the top of the lid finial/handle and gold dots on the china spoon. There are hand painted pink flowers (we don't know the type) with green leaves, with a large floral decoration on one side of the base piece and just a small one on the backside. We've provided 8 images to try and show details and the mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with the camera lighting, so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface.

When "put together" with lid and spoon, this vintage condiment server sits about 3 inches in height, about 3 3/4 inches in greatest width (from outside of handle to opposite side of base) and about 3 inches in depth or diameter to this round piece. The china spoon measures about 3 1/4 inches in length.

Excellent overall condition. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing. We do see some minor flakes on the side of the inside part of the lid which fits within the base (not on the outer rim/edges) and some tiny, tiny dots or flakes as well as general expected wear on the underside of the base piece where it sits. There is some paint wear on the large flower motif on the base that you will see when you look close-up, but its not bad, the usual age/use wear and this piece has survived very well. There is some gold wear on the lines on the handle of the lid and use/age darkening on the unglazed inner rim of the base piece on which the lid sits. There is a raised extra touch of porcelain as the piece was made (it is glazed over) on the lid, some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, and other small expected use/age wear, but we are looking very closely to be fair. This piece is really in lovely shape and very usable or great for display.

Would make a nice addition for any set of Nippon China for use when entertaining, or a great small piece on display.

Click for more detail...

1456

Pretty Antique Nippon China Azalea Creamer, Blue Rising Sun Mark This is a very pretty antique Nippon China creamer or small pitcher in the popular Azalea pattern. Fully marked on the underside base with the light blue Nippon Hand Painted "Rising Sun" mark. This is original Nippon China and thus was made during the period 1890-1921, although we don't know exactly when during that period it was made. The piece came out of an older person's home.

Measures 3 inches in height, about 5 inches in width (from outside of handle to tip of spout) and 3 1/4 inches in depth. White base porcelain (this creamer is translucent) with hand painted light pink azalea flowers with green and grey shadow leaves (2 open flowers on one side with two flower buds, and on the other side one open flower with two flower buds). There is a curved spout on one side and an open geometric handle on the other side. The top rim of the vintage creamer is trimmed in gold with gold line trimming on the handle, but it should be noted that a good bit of the gold line trim along the top rim has been worn away through age/use, with also some wear to the gold line trim on the handle. We have provided 8 images to try to show detail and the manufacturer mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with our camera lighting so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The pink flower coloring is the usual pale pink seen with Nippon pieces of this pattern (rather than the darker, more striking azalea pink seen on Noritake pieces of this pattern). The white "hot spots" in the images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy china surface.

Excellent, slightly used condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some light scratches on the white outside surface, but you need to look at an angle in bright light to see these. We've mentioned above the gold wear. We want to point out that there is no chipping or flaking on the spout rim as is often the case. There are some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, some dark dots/tiny wear on the interior of the creamer, a touch of paint wear on the flowers (nothing bad), and a bit of wear to the underside base rim on which this piece sits. Really there's nothing to worry about here, it's a lovely piece in expected slightly used condition for its age.

A great usable and displayable vintage piece which would be a terrific addition to any collection of this nifty Azalea pattern china. Would also make a nice gift for a gardener who loves azaleas.

Click for more detail...

2114

Vintage Heinrich Villeroy & Boch V&B Bone China Creamer Villa Verde Elegant vintage Villeroy & Boch (V&B) creamer in their Villa Verde pattern. This is a white bone china piece which is porcelain as it is translucent, with a lovely curved top edge & spout, and nifty upturned molding for the side handle. We've seen some European listings of this piece which refer to this as a milk jug. This piece was made in Germany.

The pattern has a wide light turquoise or aqua band with a marbled type effect having whiteish elements to it rather than a broad solid color. This is trimmed with a decorative turquoise and gold band above, and a gold line both below and at the two sides near the handle. There is also a gold line trim around the base.

Measures about 4 1/4 inches to the highest point, about 5 inches greatest width from the tip of the pour spout to the outer edge of the handle, and about 2 1/2 inches greatest depth. This has a rounded corner rectangular base which gives the body portion that flattened look on the front and back sides (rather than the usual round shape). Weighs 6 ounces unpacked.

Fully marked on the underside base with "Heinrich, Villeroy & Boch, Villa Verde, Germany, Bone China". We do not know the exact age of this piece. We would guess from the style and Germany marking that this was made after the reunification of East and West Germany which occurred in 1990, but don't know when.

We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles and close-ups, including the manufacturer marking. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surfaces. To reduce this glare we shot many of the images at an angle, so please know that this piece does sit normally upright on a table. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or major flaws that we see (including no chips or wear on the spout as often occurs). Clean inside and out. While likely this piece was used, we don't see any significant use wear, so perhaps it was kept on display, we don't know. There is likely some minor use/age/storage/cleaning wear, perhaps some minor light scratches, etc., but nothing is jumping out at us.

An attractive piece ready to use or display. Would make a nice addition to any collection of creamers or a collection related to these wonderful Villeroy & Boch china pieces.

Click for more detail...

1876

1966 Royal Copenhagen Aluminia Faience Pitcher Eye Nils Thorsson Unusual vintage mid-century modern piece, a ceramic or china pitcher or large creamer made without a handle. Based on some internet research, this piece was made in 1966 by Aluminia Faience, a division (at the time) of Royal Copenhagen China in Denmark. While this pitcher is marked on the underside base, you will not see these company names. What appears is the word "Denmark" in light brown with an "X" below the M in Denmark, (it is this X below the M which indicates the piece was made in 1966), a curved "A" type symbol having 3 wavy horizontal lines (this identifies it as Aluminia Faience), along with the initials "VL" (perhaps the artist or decorator) and the number "4" as well as the numbers "139/2799" (which we believe are style/decoration and form numbers).

Our research suggests that the Aluminia Faience company was started in 1862 but merged with Royal Copenhagen in 1882. However, it functioned as its own division within Royal Copenhagen, not using the Royal Copenhagen standard markings, until 1969 when it ceased being a separate division of the company, was folded into the rest of the Royal Copenhagen line and Aluminia Faience markings stopped being used. The famous designer Nils Thorsson was the head of Aluminia Faience from 1928 through its end in 1969, so he would have overseen the production of this piece. We don't know that it was designed by him and don't believe that it bears his personal design mark. However, this piece has a design band which is strikingly similar, but not identical, to Nils Thorsson's "The Eye" design, so it is possible that he was involved with or influenced the design of this piece.

An older pottery or ceramic or faience (fajence, fajance) piece, standing 5 inches tall, about 4 1/4 inches greatest width, 2 1/2 inches top opening greatest width. The top opening is round with a pointed pitcher or creamer spout on one side. The major outside color is a mottled dark royal blue color, with a white interior and underside base. The lower portion of the creamer has a horizontal decorative band that has a repetitive eye type pattern using the royal blue, with purple for the eyelids, on a white background with other blue line, dot and apostrophe type shapes. Very modern looking and reminiscent of 1960s type patterns.

We've provided 8 images to try and show from all angles, including close-ups of the underside base markings and the eye pattern. There is a clear view of the spout in one image to show there is no chipping here, it does have some curved darker glazing in this area as made, but no chips. Please note that the camera lighting "lightens" the royal blue color; it is darker and richer in person (same is true for the purple color). The closest image to the blue color you would see in person is the photo of the underside base which shows some of the surrounding blue (sorry, we tried our best to show the colors). The blue is not a "flat" or solid dark royal blue, but has an appearance almost of lots of little dots, some lighter or darker than others. Please use the zoom feature to fully examine. The camera lighting also causes white "hot spots" reflecting on the high gloss surfaces.

Wonderful vintage condition, with no chips or major cracks, but this did come out of a home and does show some evidence of age/wear. On the "eye" pattern band you can see crazing pretty much throughout, with there also a large circular crazing line on the underside base and crazing visible on the upper white interior and on the top white edge (we don't see noticeable crazing on the royal blue areas). On the royal blue areas, when viewed very closely in bright light you can see some surface scratches, pin dots, etc. light wear, not really bad, but if you look closely you will see these. But there is nothing bad here nor anything that really detracts from the impressive look of this piece.

A nifty addition to any Denmark pottery collection or one related to Royal Copenhagen or Aluminia Faience. Could be an interesting addition to a collection of Nils Thorsson pieces or just a great piece to add to a pitcher or creamer collection, particularly one focused on handle-less pitchers.

2056

Pretty Pink T.S. & T. Lu-ray Pastels Oval Bowl 10 1/4 Inches #940 Very pretty vintage light pink Lu-ray Pastels oval open vegetable serving bowl in their about 10 1/4 inch size. Has molded handles at each end. Fully marked on underside base as made by Taylor, Smith & Taylor with "T. S. & T. Lu-ray Pastels U.S.A. 940". There is also an impressed "5" on the underside base.

This old bowl measures about 10 1/4 inches long x 7 1/2 inches wide and sits about 2 inches in height. We've provided 7 images to show details and close-up of the manufacturer mark. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely and note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spots" on the glossy surfaces. This vintage bowl weighs about 17 1/2 ounces or slightly over 1 pound unpacked

Very nice, very usable condition, but not mint. This vintage piece came out of an older home where it was used. While you can't see this from the topside, there is a tiny chip on the underside at the end of one of the handles (this chip measures slightly less than 1/8 inch in greatest width, it is roughly oval in shape, we've provided a close-up in the last image but of course that makes it seem much larger than in person). There is a black mark you can see on the topside, again measuring about 1/8 inch greatest measurement (kind of an open type mark, this might be able to be removed with some scrubbing/Soft Scrub, but we're not sure, we did only a light wash). There are no other chips, cracks, crazing or dark utensil marks. There are some pin/pit/tiny dark dots in the surface glazing on the topside and bottom side, and many tiny light scratches on the topside in the bowl from serving use (you don't see these unless you go looking holding this bowl at an angle in bright light). There is some other light use/wear dots/spots, etc., as to be expected with an older used piece, but this really has lasted well.

Still a very usable piece which would look fine on display or when used in serving food, to add to your Lu-ray china collection.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2230: Victorian China Sugar Shaker Muffineer Child Angels Cupids Cherubs

Click for more detail...

2230

Victorian China Sugar Shaker Muffineer Child Angels Cupids Cherubs Neat find out of a home. This is an antique Victorian china Sugar Shaker or Muffineer which we have also seen referred to as a Sugar Caster (Sugar Castor). As opposed to the usual smaller salt or pepper shaker, this is much larger with a broader top that has 31 small holes to it so you can add a lot of sweetness to desserts, baked goods, breakfast (pancakes, toast) and other food items.

Made of ceramic or china, this is not bone china or porcelain as it is not translucent. It has a single piece construction, no separate lid. This has a bulbous shape which cinches in at the neck then out to broader shoulders before slimming towards the smaller base. The ceramic body has been molded with a raised scalloping having single beads near the upper top sides, then raised beaded curves on the shoulder, below the shoulder this is molded with a large gentle swirl pattern to the overall body, then raised beads again near the base. On the topside there is a slight molded depression in the center. There is a large hole on the underside base as made for pouring in the sugar. We do not have the original cork or stopper for this as received, but you could find a larger cork piece to make this usable.

We are not experts but believe this to be an antique or Victorian piece rather than vintage due to the style, construction and decor. There is no manufacturer or country of origin marking, but believe this to likely be European made. It could have been made in the late 1800's or the early 1900's, so we have entered the early 1900's as the time period.

A basic white china piece with multicolor transfer designs, gold line paint encircling the top and bottom, and some pink coloring under the top gold line. There is a gold line leafy design below the pink. On two sides the transfer pictures or designs show two child or children angels or cherubs or cupids, with wings visible on three of the four figures. These appear to be outdoor scenes with plants and flowers nearby. In one scene there appears to be a tambourine on the ground nearby, with the other scene having what may be unlit torches at their feet. In between these images are transfers of roses, other flowers and leaves in a wreath pattern.

Stands about 4 1/8 inches in height, with a greatest width of about 2 3/4 inches. The top diameter is about 2 1/4 inches with a smaller base diameter of about 1 3/4 inches. Weighs a bit over 8 ounces unpacked.

We've provided multiple images to show the varied sides including closeups. Please note that the camera light causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth china surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Wonderful antique condition, having some expected evidence of wear and perhaps use that supports the age but nothing bad. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. The bottom underside stopper is missing as mentioned above. The underside rim on which this piece sits is unglazed with some roughness or unevenness and is not flat or finely finished so you can make this piece wobble a bit if you press down on the top but it sits fine on a table. It is possible that there are some very, very fine indents or low wear to this bottom rim, but nothing significant. In one spot near the lower base side there is an unglazed small triangle area, but this is as made since the gold line here has been painted over this. The gold lines show wear as to be expected for the age, particularly on the upper line and the leafy designs, but are still roughly 80% there. The angel pictures show some design/color wear but not bad. There are a number of small brown spots of staining/wear on the white ceramic, particularly above one of the cherub images. The top shaker holes are well formed without chips although some of the holes are a bit irregular in shape.

A fun addition to any collection of shakers, particularly one of sugar shakers, muffineers or sugar castors, or a collection of Victorian china in general. Would also make a nice gift for someone collecting pieces with angels, cupids or cherubs depicted on them.

2105

Souvenir China Old Fort Henry Kingston Ontario Canada Royal Winton Neat small piece of vintage souvenir china for Old Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. This is a small china dish, sometimes called a pin dish or trinket dish. Roughly rectangular with curved edges, measuring about 4 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 inches and sitting about 5/8 inch in height.

Cream or white colored base china with the central decor done as a black line drawing and gold line edge trim. The central image is an aerial view of the fort, with words below indicating this is "Old Fort Henry, Kingston". Weighs a tad over 2 1/2 ounces unpacked. Fully marked on backside as having been made by Royal Winton China, Made in England, with a letter "A" designation beneath this.

From some internet research, this site is now referred to as Fort Henry National Historic Site. It is located on Point Henry which is at the mouth of the Cataraqui River where it flows into the St. Lawrence River on Lake Ontario. The fort was originally built during the War of 1812 between Great Britain and the United States of America.

We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles and close-ups of the decoration. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the glossy surface. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Wonderful vintage condition with some indication of age. This older piece has large crazing lines on over 75%+ of the topside, with several large crazing lines also on the backside. There are no chips, other cracks or other major flaws. It's possible there is other minor age/use/storage wear, but nothing is jumping out at us. The central fort decor and location words are strong and very readable, and the gold line trim shows only a touch of wear in a few spots (the gold is 98% still there).

A nice piece to add to any collection of vintage souvenir china, particularly one related to buildings, military buildings or forts or installations, or one related to Lake Superior or Canada in general, Kingston or Ontario in specific. Could also make a fun gift for someone interested in military history or events related to the War of 1812 in particular.

Click for more detail...

2051

Irish Celtic Claddagh Ring Bud Vase, Donegal Parian China Ireland Lovely small vintage bud vase with a fun Irish or Celtic design. This is a Donegal Parian China (as marked) porcelain piece (it is translucent) with a multi-color design of an Irish Claddagh Ring on two sides. Donegal China is made in Ireland.

The ivory colored base porcelain is molded in a rounded square shape cinches in at the neck and then extends upward and outward in a flower or flower petal type fashion with a slightly scrolled or wavy top rim. The Claddagh Ring decor is printed on two sides in black, with the coloring we think then hand painted in gold, pink, blue and yellow. The other two sides of the bud vase have an ornate molded curves & square design, with the overall vase also having other molded line/ridges decor for a very pretty and delicate look. The vintage vase stands 4 inches tall and is 2 inches deep/wide. It weighs 2 ounces unpacked.

This thin porcelain construction and coloring seems reminiscent of Belleek China, which is also made in Ireland. From some internet research, Belleek is also sometimes referred to as Belleek Fine Parian China. Parian china is a type of bisque porcelain that has been made to imitate marble. Belleek Pottery actually acquired Donegal Parian China as a subsidiary in 2007. We obtained this piece out of an older home and believe it dates older than that (partly because there is no reference to Belleek on this piece), although we don't know exactly when it was made.

We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surfaces, changes some of the ring coloring a bit and blands out some of the molded detail. So we have also included some images shot without the camera lighting as alternatives. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or major issues. This piece is clean inside and out, all paint/decor there, so we are not sure it was ever used, perhaps just kept on display. If you look closely at an angle in bright light, you can see that there is some age spotting on the gold painted ring on both sides (standing in normal light this looks just fine, but we've shown this in some images). As made, the hand painted coloring sometimes does not fill the entire black outlined area, as with the green paint on the crown on the ring images on both sides. There may be a touch of minor surface wear from age/cleaning, but nothing is jumping out at us. There is a touch of wear to the underside base on which this piece sits, as expected.

A terrific piece in great shape to add to your Irish or Ireland or Celtic related collection, or just a great gift for someone interested in that heritage. Maybe also a fun "box" or container in which to give someone a Claddagh ring!
