Click for more detail...

1157

Pennsbury Pottery Rotary Club Washington Crossing PA Dish Neat old pottery or ceramic piece made by Pennsbury Pottery (an American Art Pottery or Folk Art Pottery manufacturer) as a collectible souvenir for the Rotary Club of Washington Crossing, PA (Pennsylvania, Penna.). We know this from the markings on the backside, the Pennsbury Pottery mark is incised or impressed into the piece with the Rotary Club mark stamped on. Small, round, vintage dish, made to be hung from the hole on the backside through which a string has been tied. Frontside is a great raised relief depiction of George Washington crossing the Delaware River (we are guessing it is the Delaware from the famous historical showing of that event) with other soldiers in a boat. The dish is the usual wonderful earth-tone brown for which Pennsbury Pottery was known, with darker highlighting to the relief and and black line trim.

The lovely antique dish measures about 4 15/16 inches in diameter, sitting about 7/8 inch in height. We've provided 4 images, including a close-up of the marks. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. Wonderful condition, we see nothing major wrong, no chips, crazing, etc. There are some tiny stray surface scratches (which you can only see at an angle in bright light) and some other very minor surface wear (noticeable only on very, very close inspection)...nothing bad or a problem here at all, and to be expected from an older piece. Has the expected three dots or unglazed spots on the backside as made in the pottery firing.

A terrific piece which could be of interest to collectors of Pennsbury Pottery, or collectors of historical memorabilia or souvenir pieces related to Rotary Clubs in general or the Rotary Club from Washington Crossing, Penn., or collectors of general items related to George Washington and his crossing of the Delaware (Washington crossing Delaware). Also would just plain look fun hanging on a wall with other pottery pieces in a room using earthtone decor.

Click for more detail...

1333

Abingdon Pottery Turquoise Double Handled Vase Pretty ceramic vase made by Abingdon Pottery likely in the 1950's. Only some of the letters in the manufacturer's name appear stamped on the underside base (part of the "n" and "g" and most of the "don") along with "U.S.A.", but we believe this is who made this piece based on others we've seen in the past. Very nice turquoise color, with two small handles at the waist on either side of the vase in curved leaf shapes. The bottom of the vase is bulbous, elegantly extending upwards to a flared circular top rim.

This old vase stands 7 inches tall, about 3 5/8 inches greatest width and 3 1/4 inches depth, with a smaller cinched in round base having a diameter of about 2 3/8 inches. This piece is ceramic or pottery and not porcelain (it is not translucent). We've provided 6 images to show varied views along with close-ups of the manufacturer marking. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. Also, the all-over turquoise color is richer and a bit greener/truer turquoise color in person than appears in the images due to the camera lighting effect (the camera makes the vase seem a bit more just light blue in color).

Wonderful overall condition with no chips, cracks or crazing but not mint. There is nothing major to worry about here but the vase has minor use/age/manufacturing flaws as would be expected. There are pin/pit dots in the ceramic, dark pin dots in the pottery, a few light surface scratches with at least one creating a tiny tiny white pin dot (nothing bad), a few small stain/wear spots (nothing bad, we see 2 of these below the cinched in area at the bottom and one on the upper interior of the vase), a tiny impressed curved line mark along the lower base edge that looks made in manufacture to us, some impressed lines and wear on the underside base on which the piece sits. But you have to look very closely like we do to notice these things; most would just see the nifty shape and color.

A neat vintage piece to use or put on display as part of an Abingdon Pottery collection or a colorful room addition.

Click for more detail...

2141

Vtg Pottery Ceramic Flower Frog Mottled Green Glaze 16 holes 3.5 In. Neat vintage find, a pottery or ceramic flower frog. This is a good medium size, round, measuring 3 1/2 inches in diameter and sitting about 1 1/2 inches in height. Has 16 fairly evenly spaced holes (not exactly even), with the holes about 5/16 inch in diameter. This is a heavy piece, weighing about 12 ounces unpacked.

Nifty mottled dark green glaze with lighter and darker areas to it. The camera light used in the images makes this appear a bit lighter green than what you will see in person as often happens with mottled green ceramic glazes when photographed. The light also creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth top and side surfaces. The underside shows the pottery with some glazing that dripped through (not totally glazed here).

There is no manufacturer marking on this piece so we can't tell you who made this. But the look and condition is supportive of it being a vintage piece, not new. We've provided 7 images to show from varied angles, including 2 close-ups of the larger chip on the underside.

Great usable and displayable condition but this is a vintage piece with some flaws. As you can see there is a chip on the underside base, from the rim and extending towards the center, largely flat with one deeper edge on one side. There is a tiny, second, minor chip on the underside base rim in another spot that appears partly glazed on the side, which was likely made in manufacture, which could also be true of the larger one, we are not sure. There are topside surface scratches, minor glaze flaking around some of the holes (perhaps from use), glaze pops/tiny holes, many side rubbed/wear/surface wear spots, etc., but nothing out of the ordinary for a vintage piece that likely was used. None of this would detract from the great overall look on display and adds to the believability of age.

We have also listed a vintage bisque china flower frog for sale in the china & porcelain category. If you are interested in both, please email us prior to inputting the sale. The system will not automatically provide the postage savings from shipping both pieces in the same box. We would be pleased to input that for you.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2144: Vintage Watt Pottery Apple Cereal Bowl #74 Oven Ware Hand Painted

Click for more detail...

2144

Vintage Watt Pottery Apple Cereal Bowl #74 Oven Ware Hand Painted Vintage pottery or ceramic cereal bowl with outer hand painted decor of a red apple and green leaves. This is believed to be an older Watt Pottery piece from some internet research. It is impressed marked on underside base with "Oven Ware U.S.A. #74" which is believed to have been used by Watt Pottery. The company also included the Watt name in their markings on larger pieces, but believed to not do so on the smaller ones.

This is a low bowl, measuring 2 inches in height, round with a top diameter of 5 1/2 inches. The apple pattern appears hand painted on the outside of one side with the remainder of the bowl a medium tan or cream color, inside and out (there is no pattern on the interior of this bowl). This vintage pottery piece weighs about 9.3 ounces unpacked.

We've provided 8 images including close-ups. Since the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glazed surfaces, we've also included some images without the camera light. These will appear darker than what you will see in person, but they also allow you to see detail that is less obvious when the camera light is used. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Very nice overall vintage used condition with evidence of age/wear. This piece was used and is not mint, but could still be used or displayed well.

You can see in the images that along the outer base and on/near the base rim there are some flat flakes/chips. There are no cracks on this piece or large chips. Along the upper outer rim there are also several very tiny dot low flakes/chips from handling/use, as to be expected with pottery. The hand painting is bright and colorful, but with a glaze pop near one of the leaf lower edges (you can see this in the images), two tiny dots/paint flake dots on the apple, and other pin/pit dots, rubbed wear, etc. on the painting. Elsewhere the pottery has pin/pit dots, a raised extra pottery spot on the interior as made, some light scratches on the interior but not bad at all, exterior dots/pin/pit dots, scratches, wear spots, etc. on the cream colored areas.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2148: Unmarked Vintage Mid Century Modern Pottery Small Low Planter Green

Click for more detail...

2148

Unmarked Vintage Mid Century Modern Pottery Small Low Planter Green Unmarked small low planter that from style is a mid century modern piece, but we don't know exactly who made this or when. Made of pottery or ceramic or clay.

Low light green planter which we would call mint green in roughly oval shape with some scalloping or curving to the design and vertical lines on the sides. Measures 6 1/8 inches long x 3 1/2 inches wide and stands about 2 1/4 inches tall. It weighs 12.5 ounces unpacked.

What is most distinctive here is that it was not made perfectly in shape. You can see in the images that the top rim slopes down on both sides (is not even across) but more so on one side than the other. This is how this piece was made in manufacture. It could have been a manufacturing error or intentional, we don't know. Further, when first placed on a table, the piece does not immediately sit firmly, it will shake slightly and then sit still.

Even with this could easily be used as intended for small plants or bulbs, and might be effective for bonsai plants which often use low planters. Could also be used in bathroom or kitchen settings to hold a small grouping of bottles or other items as is a current decorating trend.

We've provided 7 images to show from all angles. Most were shot with the camera lighting which causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glazed surfaces. However, we also included one without the camera light to help show detail, although this appears yellower. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Lovely vintage condition, with no major flaws beyond what has been indicated prior. We see no chips, cracks, crazing. It may not have been previously used for plants as we don't see the common dirt/use staining. There is expected slight age/wear via surface glazing wear on interior base, some scratches, dark spots/dots, slight rim wear/darkening in spots, wear to underside rim on which this sits, etc., but nothing to worry about here.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2156: Vivid Vintage Gaudy Welsh Pitcher Old Castle Gray's Pottery England

Click for more detail...

2156

Vivid Vintage Gaudy Welsh Pitcher Old Castle Gray's Pottery England Impressive vintage pottery pitcher marked as made by Old Castle in England. This is a Gaudy Welsh pattern in vivid flow blue, red/pink, green & copper coloring on a white base, with a snake, serpent or dragon handle (we've seen this referred to under various animal names).

From some internet research, we believe this piece was made ca. 1920's-1960 by the Gray's Pottery company based in Stoke-on-Trent, England. We have read that the Old Castle mark was one of theirs, with them using it on certain types of pieces. Further, while this uses the type of 1800's Gaudy Welsh decoration, it appears these pieces were made during the period indicated, with around 1960 the latest date given the sale of the company around that time (and the changed name thereafter).

Measures about 4 9/16 inches greatest height, about 4 inches greatest outside width, and about 3 1/4 inches greatest depth to the octagonal or 8-sided bulbous base area. This piece weighs about 7.7 ounces unpacked.

We've provided 8 images to show all sides and some close-ups. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Lovely overall condition but does show some age/wear, not bad, but is not mint. There are no large chips, cracks or crazing. There are no chips on the pour spout....the green or dark dot areas you can see in the images are stray paint dots (please also note in the second image which shows the spout you can see a white area of dirt on some of the lower flow blue which has since been fully removed, we had washed this piece gently but had missed this dirt until seeing the images, sorry). The inside and outside are bright, colorful & clean. This does, however, have multiple tiny indents or round tiny chips on the underside base on which it sits (not unexpected, nothing to see on display).

There is top surface paint flaking/rubbed spots/mars in some areas. There is a spot on the outer handle which you can see in some of the images and mainly in the 7th image close-up on the brown area (this measures about 1/8 inch in size), as well as another much smaller area like this lower on this handle on the brown area on the same side. On the interior handle there is a white thick line type paint flaking spot about 3/16 inch in length (you can see this in the first image). Please note that in the 4th image showing the handle, most of the white you see on the brown is the camera light reflection spots. There are a few other tiny touches/dots of paint wear on the pitcher body, as well as spots that the paint was not darkly applied (as made). There are stray paint dots, some surface scratches, and likely other minor wear....but nothing unexpected for the age or really bad here, nor detracts from the wonderful look.

Would make an eye-catching piece on display.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 23536: Nifty Blue & Green Ridged V-Shaped Pottery Vase

Click for more detail...

23536

Nifty Blue & Green Ridged V-Shaped Pottery Vase Attractive pottery vase in interesting 'V' shape with molded ridges and mottled green & blue earthy or natural coloring. Has no identification markings which we could find. Stands about 6 inches tall, roughly oval top opening, greatest width 5 1/2 inches, depth 3 1/4 inches, with roughly round base about 2 1/2 inches diameter.

The green & blue colors mix in varying shades among the ridges, similar to seeing the variation in color in a lake as the water ripples. It has a very natural reminiscent look which we find very impressive and tried to capture as best we could in the 3 images. Please note that the white 'hot spots or dots' in the images are the reflection of the lighting on this highly glazed piece. We don't know how old the piece is, it came out of a home.

Wonderful condition overall. We do see one flake or small chip on one side near the bottom which shows as a small white circle among the green about 1/8 inch in diameter, some other minor scratches or lines on the ridges and feel some roughness on some of the ridges and the top edge, which we believe traces to how the final glaze layer settled or was applied. There also are some areas within the ridges under the top glaze in which the colors may not have fully melded into one another during manufacture (this particularly seems to have occurred in the more aqua-colored areas), leaving a speckled 'dotted line' look within the deeper points of some of the ridges. But while pointing out all we see to fairly represent this piece, it is the striking effect of this vase which catches the eye. An interesting addition for any pottery collection.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 2247: Antique Japanese Satsuma Pottery Bud Vase Small 4.25 In Male Figures

Click for more detail...

2247

Antique Japanese Satsuma Pottery Bud Vase Small 4.25 In Male Figures Nifty find out of a home. This is a Japanese Satsuma pottery vase or ceramic piece. From the style and visible aging present, we believe this one to be an antique Satsuma vase although we don't know the exact age. It is minimally a vintage piece, and definitely not one of the newer "Satsuma-like" pieces. There is no country of origin or manufacturer marking on this piece as was often the case, but these were made in Japan.

A small bud vase with a thin neck that opens into a broader, bulbous base that narrows to the smaller round base rim on which this piece sits. Measures about 4 1/4 inches height with a greatest width of about 2 1/2 inches. The round underside base measures about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. This antique Japanese vase weighs 3.2 ounces unpacked.

Base pottery color is beige or light tan with a hand applied or hand painted decor on all outer sides. Some of the paint is applied thickly in a raised manner, particularly with the gold applications and many colored paint dot decorations. The applied colors include gold, the traditional red-orange, light blue, light green, black and yellow. Two pairs of male figures appear on two opposite sides, painted differently, and appearing to wear kimonos. In between these there are two similar decor panels including some flowers and many dots, with geometric swirls on the vase neck and other decor.

Please examine the images closely using the zoom feature. The camera light creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth, painted surfaces, particularly on the gold paint. This makes it difficult to see some aspects of this antique vase, so we've included images shot at an angle to try and control the reflections, as well as one image shot without the camera light. That one, of course, appears much darker, but it can help you better see some detail and know that the white "hot spots" don't represent paint loss.

This lovely antique Satsuma vase is in great shape for its age, but does have an all-over fine crazing which can be seen in most of the background beige pottery areas and some of the painted areas. There are no chips or other cracks/large cracks. In spots there is some light paint wear but not bad (you can see some of this on and near the top rim) and with the intricate design, this doesn't jump out at you. You can only see a bit into the interior, which has crazing and what looks to be a brown painted line, as well as some ribbed/textured surface area. The underside base rim on which this sits has expected darkening as a sign of age. It's possible this has other light use/age/cleaning wear, but there's really nothing major to worry about here.

A terrific old piece to add to any collection of this intricate Satsuma pottery.

1339

Southern Potteries Blue Ridge Pottery Yellow Mayflower Dinner Plate Southern Potteries, Inc. Blue Ridge Pottery ceramic dinner plate in their Mayflower pattern in the yellow color. Round plate measuring 9 1/2 inches in diameter and sitting 3/4 inch in height. Fully marked on underside base with the black printed circular mark including a graphic of mountains and a pine tree stating "Hand Painted-Underglaze, Blue Ridge, Made in U.S.A., Southern Potteries, Inc." with what we believe is a piece designator underneath, "11B".

We've provided 5 images including close-ups of the painted flowers and the manufacturer marking. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. While the plate looks fine on display and just seated on a table, on close inspection in bright light you will see that topside there are many, many small and medium sized surface scratches and rubbed marks as this vintage item was clearly used. This old piece, however, has no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some other pin/pit dots, tiny black and wear dots/spots, etc., general use, and some scratches on the underside.

Still usuable as an extra dinner plate with your existing set, or adding nice color in a country setting hanging on display on a wall or in a cabinet.

2119

Vtg Mid-Century Large Stangl Pottery Cornucopia Horn of Plenty #5066 Lovely large piece of vintage Stangl Pottery which came out of a home. This is the larger size of their Cornucopia or Horn of Plenty, measuring about 10 inches in length x about 7 inches in height with a diameter across the largest part of the opening of about 7.5 inches. As this is made from pottery or ceramic and given the size, this piece weighs about 35 ounces or 2.2 pounds unpacked.

Marked on underside base with the expected Stangl manufacturer marking. While the gold stamping here is blurry and thick, making this hard to read, it states "Hand Painted" above the oval, "Stangl, Trenton, NJ" within the oval, then beneath the oval "Since 1805 (we believe this is the date), Antique Gold" and then the item number "5066" (this number is particularly blurry but from some research we believe that is the number meant here). From some internet research, the company name was changed to Stangl Pottery in 1955 (pieces had previously been made under Fulper Pottery) and it ceased operations in 1978, so this piece was made during that period and is a mid-century modern piece.

Formed with curved lines or ridges throughout, having a curled up end or tail and a wide open mouth area, so that this could be displayed with real or decorative fruit, vegetables or flowers within the piece as part of an eye-catching table or display setting. The piece has an all-over light turquoise blue coloring onto which is applied the rich gold coloring in a mottled fashion. Deep in the interior of the cornucopia opening the pottery has a white or ivory color, but one only sees the gold & turquoise on display. We have read that these pieces were painted with 22K gold but that is not stamped on the pottery so we don't know for certain what gold paint was used here.

We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles including the manufacturer marking. Please note that the camera lighting causes white and highlighted spots on the smooth surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Wonderful condition overall, with some expected evidence of age when examined closely, but nothing bad (no chips, cracks or major flaws). As made, there are pin and pit dots in the pottery and two spots of extra pottery where the opening of the horn sits on the table. These are not coated in the gold that is elsewhere along the rim and can be felt to be rough spots rather than smooth, either made this way to keep the piece from sliding on a table or perhaps the gold that may have once covered these was worn here over time, we don't know, but these are not seen when the piece rests on a table. Minor evidence of wear/age/cleaning wear can be seen via a line scratch at a slant across the gold rim in one spot, other gold wear on the opening rim (but we would guess 85-90%+ of the gold is still covering this rim opening), gold line/rubbed wear to the curved tail or tip area (but no chips), other minor wear on the body, etc. Nothing unexpected for an older piece or would be seen on display.

Terrific center piece for celebrating gathering around tables together with our families and friends.

Click for more detail...

2155

1940s McCoy Pottery Pink Coral Butterfly Log Trough Planter Fernery Vintage McCoy Pottery piece from their Butterfly line, which dates to the early 1940s or a mid-century modern piece. This is a planter is a log trough style as seen by the shape, which we believe McCoy referred to as a fernery, but are not certain of that. It is light pink in color with a matte glaze, a color which McCoy referred to as Coral.

About 8 9/16 inches in outer length, 4 inches in width/depth, and standing about 3 3/8 inches in height on 4 triangular style legs. The outside has a molded multiple butterflies design differing on all four sides. The outside is not smooth nor conforms to a strict rectangular shape, as it imitates a log, curving on the underside, with a slight bumpiness or waviness to the top outer rim making this overall appearing with slight contouring rather than a straight line feel. The color glazing is also not a flat pink or coral, but has lighter and darker purple elements to it. Particularly on the inside and the underside bottom, you can see the random light purple coloring in areas, giving this a richer, more vibrant feel.

This old piece is not marked with any of the various McCoy logos, but from some research, that is not uncommon. Apparently this planter or fernery piece is known to have sometimes been marked with only the USA mark, and this was often done subtly and not readable on these pieces. We see no indication at all of a mark on the underside base, but are certain that this is a McCoy piece from the pattern, style and research.

This piece is pottery or ceramic or made of clay. It is heavy for its size as is often the case with McCoy pottery, weighing 28.3 ounces or 1.75 pounds unpacked.

The smooth, highly molded piece was hard to photograph, with the camera lighting often "blanding out" some of the detail and condition aspects. So we have provided 8 images, shot both with and without the camera light. Those with the light are truer to the coloring, but those without the light while appearing dark can often help you to see detail better. The color is still richer and nicer in person than we could show. Please look across all the images to get the best feel for this highly collectible piece, using the zoom feature for closer detail.

While very displayable and usable, this piece does show its age and prior use, has flaws, and is not mint. There are no large chips or pieces missing. The interior shows expected light brown/yellowish staining in largely a line fashion around all four sides below the rim from prior use as a planter with dirt (you can see some of this in the images, this is darker in person than the images show but still not overly bad). This piece has largely overall light gray line crazing (not really everywhere but over much of the piece so you should view this as overall crazed, the line crazing is lighter or darker in differing areas). On the interior, in 3 of the 4 corners, you can see vertical and diagonal hairline cracks of varied lengths, with another 2 lesser hairlines elsewhere on the interior sides. In one corner, one of these hairlines is also visible at an angle on the exterior (the last image shows this). This fernery was manufactured with raised dots of extra pottery, pin & pit dots, some small unglazed spots, two groupings of many top glazing dots/pops/tiny pin dots on one exterior long side, etc. There is other expected age/use wear such as darkening on the underside legs, some scratches/rubbed lines, light spots, a low tiny dot rim flake, etc.

Still has a lovely overall look in a hard to find piece which came out of an older home and would be impressive on display or in use, and would add to any collection of this terrific McCoy pottery.

Click for more detail...

2150

Vintage Mid Century Modern Pottery Large Planter Green 896 USA Mark Large planter that from style is a mid century modern piece, but we don't know exactly who made this or when. It is marked on the underside base with the style number "896" and then "USA" but we don't know which company made this. Made of pottery or ceramic or clay.

Muted medium green colored planter in largely rectangular shape with a molded curved line design on the exterior on the two longer sides. All sides flare up and out from the smaller rectangular base. Also, as you can see from the top side view, the long sides intentionally curve inward slightly rather than being straight. Both of these give this planter an interesting flared, bowed look.

Greatest measurements are about 10 5/8 inches in length (across the top opening) x 4 1/8 inches wide and stands about 3 3/8 inches tall. This old planter is heavy, weighing just over 2 pounds unpacked.

Could certainly be used as intended for small plants or bulbs, and might be effective for bonsai plants. Could also be used in bathroom or kitchen settings to hold a grouping of bottles or other items as is a current decorating trend.

We've provided 7 images to show from all angles. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glazed surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Very nice vintage condition which shows expected age/wear but not bad. This piece has all-over crazing via fine crazing lines. There are no chips. There is one hairline that starts at the upper rim on a short end and extends into the interior of the old planter. We also see curved hairlines/crack lines in the interior corners (but these do not go through to the underside of this piece, these might have been made in manufacture as some of these are fully under the glazing). There is other evidence of age/wear/use via many tiny dark/brown/spots/dots, some other light spotting & surface wear, etc. There are also made in manufacture flaws such as some interior indented glazed over lines, an interior indented spot near one end rim that is not fully glazed (you can see this in an image), glazed and unglazed white dots, some white dots of raised extra pottery, etc.

Still a fun piece out of an older home that will display well.

Click for more detail...

2220

Original Yellow Fiesta Pottery Fiestaware Plate 6.25 In. B&B Dessert This is a Yellow colored plate, bread & butter (B&B) or dessert size, which is a piece of the original Fiesta pottery or Fiestaware from the printed mark on the backside. States "Genuine, fiesta, H L Co, USA". The "H L Co" stands for Homer Laughlin China Company. The word "Genuine" was added to the mark in the 1940s and helps to date this mark during the 1940's to 1972 period (we don't know when this piece was made within that, but it is not one of the new pieces).

This has the expected neat golden yellow color. Round, measuring about 6 1/4 inches in diameter and sitting about 5/8 inch in height. On the topside, this bread & butter plate has a lowered center with some impressed circles, then flares slightly upward to the main body of the dish before curving higher to the rim, with several more in mold circular ridges near the rim. The underside of this dessert plate has additional raised molded circular ridges. This vintage piece is a heavy pottery or ceramic piece for its size, weighing slightly over 8 ounces unpacked.

We've provided 7 images to show front and back sides, including a close-up of the manufacturer marking. The images taken with the camera light show the coloring you will see in person fairly well, but the light causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surface and can bland out some of the circular ridge detail. So the last image was shot without the camera light and thus appears slightly darker, but can help show this detail. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. We believe this piece was never used as it does not show the expected use wear for its age. It came out of a home and likely was kept on display. There are a couple of small stray scratches and perhaps some other very light wear we are missing, but we think these came from handling/cleaning, as it just doesn't look used at all. There is a tiny blue dot on the topside of the plate which is under the glazing and was made in manufacture. On the underside, there are a few spots where the yellow coloring was not applied as fully, and some pin/pit dots in the coloring/glazing, as made in manufacturing. Clean and bright, top and bottom.

2149

Vintage Mid Century Modern Pottery Small Planter Pink Marked #419 US Small planter that from style is a mid century modern piece, but we don't know exactly who made this or when. It is marked on the underside base with the style number "419" and then "US" but we don't know which company made this. Made of pottery or ceramic or clay.

Rich pink colored planter in oval shape with a molded diamond or cross hatched design on the exterior. Measures about 6 1/2 inches long x 3 1/4 inches wide and stands about 2 13/16 inches tall. This old planter weighs 14.5 ounces unpacked.

Could be used as intended for small plants or bulbs, and might be effective for bonsai plants. Could also be used in bathroom or kitchen settings to hold a small grouping of bottles or other items as is a current decorating trend.

We've provided 8 images to show from all angles. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glazed surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

While this piece has a great look, it has wear and flaws that support its vintage status and age, and is not mint. This old piece is all over crazed with a fine line crazing.
We can see a number of hairlines, three that start on the upper rim and then extend down the interior, a fourth smaller hairline that starts on the rim and extends on the exterior, and several other small hairlines on the rim and/or side. There are several circular lines/hairlines on the interior base (but none of this goes through to the exterior base) and a small area of darker crazing on the interior base. The planter has other evidence of age via many tiny dark/black dots, darkened spots, some scratches, pin/pit dots in the pottery made in manufacturing, etc.

Still a fun piece out of an older home that will display well.
