Click for more detail...

16287

Tell City Chair Company Copper and Maple Bun Warmer A scarce vintage dining accessory made by the famous Tell City Chair Company, this maple and copper piece is a bun warmer for serving hot rolls or biscuits. The hand wrought copper lid opens and closes with the thumb release above the wooden handle to keep the bread warm. The bun warmer is about 13 inches long including the handle by 7" wide by 4-1/2" high at the back.

The hammered copper top has a warm brown patina. There are some light scuffs and scratches to the wood finish at the back and interior front, all of which are evident in the photos. The next to last picture shows a thin scrape to the wood at one corner where the copper lid attaches. The original paper label that was on the bottom is gone now but it would have been marked Pattern 3104, #48 Andover finish, Tell City Chair Co. Tell City Indiana. The bun warmer is often mistaken for a coal scuttle, but the last photo is from a 1950s company lamps & decorative accessories brochure showing it is indeed a hard rock maple bun warmer (left column center).

Circa: 1950

The tray measures 17-1/4 by 14-1/4 inches.

There are some pindot flecks of wear to the raised painted flowers and some shallow diagonal scratches at the left side of the flowers. The back has table wear, a strip of old white cloth tape and remnants of a foil Nashco label. There are no dents or dings.

16085

Jennings Brothers Bronze Desk Set With Perpetual Calendar This early 1900s cast bronze desk set by Jennings Brothers is a transitional Art Nouveau to Arts and Crafts design. Included are an inkwell, a blotter, a perpetual desk calendar, and a blotter with bronze corner decoration.

The calendar has 6 celluloid month inserts (2 months on each, so all are present). There are six month inserts - there should be 7 but the one for months beginning on a Sunday is missing. The inserts all bear a copyright date of 1893. The bronze frame is marked on back JB 3215.

The 3 by 4 inch inkwell has a milk glass insert in pristine condition with no chips or damage. The handheld ink blotter still has its blue blotter paper. All three desk pieces are in excellent condition with no issues.

The 12 by 19 inch desktop blotter is backed in dark green moiré silk which is still in good condition aside from expected minor fraying and wear at the exterior edge folds. The thick pink blotter paper is still present, those somewhat faded and worn. The bronze corners are all firmly attached.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 5694-3: Hand Tooled Copper Over Glass Liqueur or Cordial Set on Tray

Click for more detail...

5694-3

Hand Tooled Copper Over Glass Liqueur or Cordial Set on Tray This unusual vintage copper cordial, aperitif, or liqueur beverage set has a pierced and chased flower and leaf decoration reminiscent of Western style leather tooling. There are six copper jacketed small glasses on an oval solid copper tray with reticulated openwork rim.

The glasses are thick and flared at the rim, almost shot glass size. Overall height from base to rim is 3-1/2 inches, diameter across the rims is 1-1/2 inches. The glasses are 2 inches deep and hold one ounce. The tray measures 10-1/2 by 7-1/2 inches.

One glass has a tight hairline at the rim with a nearby rim fleabite (see last photo). The others have no issues. The tray could use some cleaning and has a few shallow dimples due to the softness of the copper, nothing that prevents it or the glasses from sitting flat. The set has a somewhat Southwestern look but there are no maker's marks - probably made in Mexico for the tourist trade.

Circa: 1950

Manufacturer: Mid Century Mexican Production

The thick poured tin lining has a piece missing near the rim over a repair to one leg, and there is a nickle size dent to the exterior of one round depression. Smaller old dents and dings abound as shown, all typical of an authentically old European cooking pan.

The body is paneled, the lid is hinged. It measures 4-1/2 inches high to the lid finial, nearly 4 inches wide from handle to spout, and 2" diameter at the base.

The pitcher is heavy for its size and has an authentic patina. The only issue is that the handle has become detached from the body at the bottom. Please note that the closeup photo is greatly enlarged - the separation is barely noticeable when viewed normally.

13769

1933 Chicago Worlds Fair Copper Ashtray In Box This Art Deco era solid copper ashtray was a souvenir of the Chicago World's Fair. It comes in its original box, the back of which is a self-mailer so the fair goer could send the souvenir to a friend. The center of the 3 inch square ashtray has an embossed image of the Chrysler Motors exhibit building at the fair with the words "A Century Of Progress, Chicago, 1993, Chrysler Motors, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler".

It doesn't look like the ashtray was ever used - there are no nicotine or ash stains. There is a bit of tarnish which is to be expected after 85 years, easily polished away if desired. The box is in good condition with no tears.

Click for more detail...

15928

Chrome and Bakelite Manning Bowman Art Deco Ball Coffee Urn This Manning Bowman model 494 "Party Urn" chrome and Bakelite electric coffee percolator has a great Art Deco ball shape. The patent numbers on the bottom date to the late 1920s though it was in production through most of the 1930s. It holds 24 cups heats up just fine. The cloth covered cord and basket are present.

The dark yellow Bakelite or Catalin base, handle insert, and round disk spout decoration have no nicks or chips. The chrome finish is clean and shiny with no corrosion. There is one short, shallow scratch to the back of the urn and two tiny pinpoints dimple at the front, just below the ringed center band and to the left of the spout (none of the three were visible in any of the pictures I took). The glass perc top is a replacement - the original split cleanly in half vertically top to bottom when I went to wash it. I'll include the two pieces with shipment in case you prefer to have the original for display. The cloth covered cord is in great condition with no damage or fraying. The coffee maker is about 15 inches tall to the top of the raised handle by 11 inches at the widest point where the handles attach.

Click for more detail...

15901

Persian Style Brass Tray Engraved Hunter, Animals Scene This antique Persian style brass tray is just under 8-1/4 by 16 inches handle to handle. It has an elaborate all-over engraved scene of two ancient hunters with spears, two deer-like animal, and an oversize bird amid a jungle of leaves, grasses, and flowers. The rim is decorated with a bird and flowers border. The backs of both handles are marked as shown in the last picture. It's too worn for me to make out except for the number 21.

The tray has a dark, original patina. There are some light colored spots that will disappear if you clean or polish it, but I'll leave that decision to the buyer. I used artificial lighting with flash in the first photo to better show the design detail. The other pictures better show the actual coloring.

15407

Arts and Crafts Copper Charger Manning Bowman This beautiful 11-3/4 inch Arts and Crafts era hammered copper charger tray or plate was made by (or for) the Manning Bowman Company and is a rare example of their early giftware line. It has a more substantial weight than most MB copper items. There is an applied patina to the bump and angled scallop rim which apparently dripped during the making, causing a 1/4 inch oval dark spot and a couple of smaller ones. It looks like someone unsuccessfully tried to remove the larger spot. The back is stamped M.B. Means Best, Trademark, Manning-Bowman & Co., Meriden Conn. Made in U.S.A.

The largest measures 7-1/4 inches diameter by 1-3/4" deep, the medium size mold is 5-5/8" diameter, and the small mold is 4 by 1-1/4 inches deep. All are lined in food-safe zinc or nickel. They have brass hangers at the tops and are marked "Nils Johan, Akta Koppar Sweden" inside a cartouche with knight's head and the alchemical symbol for copper (circle over +). The large mold has an additional mark: Handfortent.

I haven't cleaned or polished the molds so as not to harm the patina, though it is a little spotty when viewed up close. There are no dents, dings, or scratches, just normal very minor signs of age and use. The linings are intact. I estimate them to have been made in the 1940s or 1950s at the latest.
