Coalport Cobalt & Gold Art Nouveau demitasse c&s. Porcelain. England. c. 1895. This lovely little Art Nouveau demitasse (or possibly chocolate) cup & saucer has a stylized flowering vine pattern done in cobalt blue transfer with deeper cobalt hand painted over the transfer. It has a some what flow blue look. (The lighter shade of blue is darker & not as bright a shade as it appears in the photos. Could not quite capture it). The flowers are generously accented with gilt done by hand over the glaze. All on a white ground. The shape is scalloped & lightly pinched at the edge. The cup shape is reminiscent of an opening flower. Gilt edges, gilt double ring at the tiny cup foot and at saucer well; solid gilt handle. CONDITION: Excellent (cup has tiny all over crazing usual for its age; saucer pings; slightest of wear to gilt ring at saucer well; a couple of tiny scratches to gilt on saucer). Delightful example of Art Nouveau design. |
