As shown (below) on the cover: Henry A. Wallace – from a family with long history of leadership in Iowa agriculture and agricultural journalism. John L. Lewis – United Mine Workers president who grew up in the coal towns of southern Iowa. Herbert Hoover – Iowa mining engineer who became President. Harry Hopkins – New Deal administrator and presidential advisor who developed a social conscience while an undergraduate at an Iowa liberal arts college.
Story of their achievements and travails are masterfully told in this issue.
