Circa: mid-1900's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: James Swan Co. Seymour CT. U.S.A.
This is a nice vintage auger bit, design to fit your brace as it has the square tapered end for brace chucks. It is made and marked "JAMES SWAN SEYMORE" and the maker's stamp is a bit light in areas, located on the shank. This is a single lip style auger bit, basically more for construction work than cabinet making, with extra thick spiral seperations, yet designed to curl the wood chips and spiral them out of the hole without plugging up. This one came from a hardware old stock, looks new, except for a few storage tiny dings scattered, none causing use issues. A hard to find type by a well known tool maker that manufactured several types of auger bits and edge tools in the early to mid-1900's. This bit is .87" x 9.5" long. |
