Manufacturer: Vintage Christmas Ornaments
Wonderful vintage glass Santa Claus Christmas ornament. This is a full body Santa ornament, shown in his bright red coat and hat, with white mica glitter for his beard, mustache and trimming the coat and hat. His face is the base silver mercury glass with blue painted dot eyes. The metal ornament cap is marked West Germany.
As you will see in the images, we need to note here that the metal cap is one of those which does not fit snugly onto the glass, appearing oversized (and while this cap is held on the ornament firmly for hanging, you can lift it up gently and see that the top glass edge under the cap is chipped, but you won't see that at all with the cap on or the ornament hanging). This ornament came out of a home as you see it, with this cap. When we see ornaments with oversized caps, however, there is always the possibility that the former owner replaced the cap with one from another ornament for some reason. We don't know whether that is the case here or not. If the former owner did do that, then this ornament may not have been made in West Germany. However, from the type of ornament, it is quite possible to us that this was made in West Germany, and this could be the original cap....we just don't know that for certain and want to make sure you are aware of the possibility.
Measures about 3 inches long to the cap, about 3 1/4 inches long with the metal hanging ring, about 1 1/4 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches in depth.
We've provided 7 images to show from all angles, including one close-up of the cap marking. The West Germany is not fully readable in the image but we guarantee this is there and you will have no trouble reading it in person (sorry, we did the best we could to photograph this). The camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or pieces missing (beyond note about cap and glass under cap stated above). There is a touch of age/use/wear on the red areas via some tiny scratches, dots, tiny rubbed areas, etc., but really nothing bad at all and nothing unexpected for an old ornament that was hung and handled. The white mica glitter looks great and all there, but it is possible that some will come off in handling and perhaps in shipping as often occurs.
Just a nifty holiday piece to add to any Christmas tree.
