Manufacturer: Vintage Glass Christmas Ornaments
Unusual antique or vintage glass Christmas ornament which came out of a home. This consists of a blue glass ball which is within an outer piece that consists of other smaller glass balls and long bumpy glass pieces that are wired together. The overall effect is the look of a double layered glass ornament in a diamond-type or spinning top type shape that is quite striking.
The outer smaller glass balls are gold and turquoise blue in color, with these balls going horizontally around the inner larger turquoise blue ball. Connected to these are the line type bumpy glass silver colored pieces that give an appearance of small silver balls strung together but each individual silver piece is one solid glass piece (not made of individual small silver balls). The wires connect all these pieces together at both the top and bottom of the ornament with part of the top wire also forming a hanging wire for the ornament.
This was definitely put together by hand (not machine) given how all this is wired together (and in one spot you can see a bit of extra twisted vertical wire from how the horizontal string of glass balls was connected). What we don’t know is whether this was handmade by one creative individual on their own for just their own use or whether someone made a lot of these and sold them in a store. We’ve never seen an ornament of this type before, and have never seen these long silver bumpy glass pieces used on ornaments before. To us these line type silver glass pieces seem like something one might see on strings of glass garland, although this isn’t something we often see like this. So this could be an individual intricate all glass ornament that someone made on their own from other Christmas glass ornament or garland pieces, but regardless it has a unique and nifty look.
Measures about 2 inches in height/length and about 2 inches in width/depth. We’ve provided 8 images to try and show from all angles. Please note that the camera lighting creates white "hot spot" reflections on the glass. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely. We do not know the exact age of this piece. From the age wear and types of pieces used (particularly the bumpy silver glass pieces) this looks quite old to us, so we are guessing it dates from mid last century or earlier (1920s-1950s). It is definitely not a new ornament but an old one. While this is a light-weight piece, it will need to be carefully packed in a box for safety in shipping.
Attractive overall vintage condition, but not new and mint looking. There are to chips or cracks or pieces missing in the glass pieces that we can see. However, there is much surface wear or coloring wear to glass, as is common with older ornaments. A lot of the gold outer coloring on the small horizontal glass balls is worn/worn-away. There is similar wear/wear spots and many dots on the inner large blue glass ball, and the small horizontal blue glass balls. There is also a good bit of surface wear on the bumpy silver line glass pieces, with many looking whiter and/or clearer in appearance. We can also see a good bit of wear/rust on the cap on the large blue glass ball. This ornament might continue to flake some surface paint wear and/or rust from the inner ball cap when handling, in storage or during shipment, as we are seeing some very tiny dots or flaking in handling during listing. But we believe all this adds to the believability of age, and would not be noticed when hanging on your Christmas tree.
We are listing many other Christmas ornaments. Should you be interested in more than one listing, please contact us prior to placing the order so that we can provide you with shipping cost savings by packing them in one package. The system will automatically provide shipping costs for each listing as if mailed separately. We would be pleased to calculate and provide the postage savings for you. |
