Circa: mid-late 1800 Manufacturer: D.R. BARTON ROCHESTER N.Y.
This is an early hand forged draw knife, made and marked by a well known mid to late 1800's edge tool maker. This one is marked "D.R. BARTON ROCH......" It has a 6" cutting edge that is offset about 90 degrees to the position of most draw knife blades in that period. It was for special application, some say it was for basket making applications, but I don't know for sure. The blade is sharp and the oak handles fit great and look nice too. The handles are help in place by a square tapered shaft that has a bent tab at the end to keep the handles from loosening. |
