Tohono O'odham Split Stitch Basket Plate 12 inch.
This Tohono O'odham Split Stitch Basket was handwoven by Native American, Tohono O'Odham. These baskets are distinctive and feature nod to ancestors weaving with an added contemporary styling. Hand coiled and hand woven with beargrass and yucca, this is in excellent condition. It's 12 inches across center and features flowing swirls that graduate in size towards the outer rim. The rim features a stitch of devil's claw. This Tohono O'odham Split Stitch Basket plate is one of a kind! Measures 12 inches across center.
Notation: The Native American Tohono O'odham or Desert People reside in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and Mexico. Early Tohono O'odham Indian Baskets were primarily utilitarian and used to carry water, firewood, prepare food and store items. Tohono O'odham Indian baskets are handmade using Native Plants such as Yucca, Beargrass,and Devils Claw. These Native American weavers rely on the natural colors of the desert plants. Indian Basket forms include a variety of shapes to include Trays, Baskets with Lids, Pictorial Baskets, Plates and Plaques.
