Manufacturer: Cast Iron Architectural Items
Nifty vintage cast iron or cast metal architectural piece in the shape of one large spiral or swirl or curlicue. A magnet sticks to this so clearly made of cast metal, but we think this is cast iron given the overall rusting of this piece.
A heavy piece, weighing 2 1/2 pounds unpacked. Measures about 13 1/4 inches greatest length, 9 inches greatest height, with a consistent depth to the metal bar of about 1/2 inch. This was made from a single, shaped metal bar that shows the shaped metal ridges on the backside. There is no visible means of hanging this piece but could have been hung on a wall or outside building using the ridges on the backside. Could also have been stuck in the ground in an upright fashion, although there is no evidence of dirt on this piece. It also could be hung on a wall or perhaps suspended in air via addition of your own hanging brackets, chains, etc. (no hanging materials included, just the metal piece itself as is/as found).
This came out of a home and is minimally a vintage piece, perhaps antique, we don't know. No manufacturer or country of origin marking present. We do not know how this was originally meant to be used but are guessing it was designed as a decor focal piece. From the overall rust, it is likely this was previously used outdoors, but we don't know that for certain.
We've provided 8 images. The first four images show two views of the metal spiral from each side, trying to show differing ways this could be displayed. Since the white background of the first four images can cause the camera light to bland out some details, we've included two images shot on some gold carpeting (one of each side). The remaining two images are close-ups for better understanding the depth and some details. Pleaase use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Overall very nice, very usable condition, but rusted with evidence of age & wear. There are no pieces missing, large cracks or large chips. The surfaces are not smooth or shiny, but have an overall rough/worn look that has a low bumpy feel that we believe is how this piece was made. There is general surface age/use wear include edge wear, some small/tiny chips but nothing major or to worry about or noticeable on display, scrapes, small discoloration/orange spots, etc., all supportive of this being an older piece.
Definitely would be an attention getter in any room setting or used outdoors, either attached to a home or wall or within a garden. |
