Circa: early 1900's Condition: Good++
This is a nice clean 24", 4 fold boxwood carpenter's rule, very well made, and in good condition. It is marked "NO. 61 BASSETT NEW HAVEN" on one side. The maker of the ruler was Stanley and is a match to the Stanley No. 61, so Bassett in New Haven CT was the retailer or distributor that whs in business around 1900. As you can see in the pictures, there is little wear, some age darkening on this rule, some edge dings, some noted wear around the three pins area from closing the rule up without the pins being aligned, otherwise in good usable condition with all three alignment pins intact. All the graduation are still clearly seen, with a 24" total length, graduations in 8ths, and 16ths. Only very minor warping to report. One of Stanley's best sellers, with a less common marking on it! |
