Offering this rarely seen late 1800's push drill with a 3-jaw spring loaded jaws screw-chuck with a rare lock-nut design. Both the driver and the chuck are marked by the maker, the chuck is marked "GOODELL-PRATT CO. GREENFIELD MASS. PAT.AUG.13.1895" and the push drill is marked "GOODELL-PRATT CO. TOOLSMITHS GREENFIELD MASS. U.S.A.". The chuck can handle round shank drill bits up to .25" no problem, but is best suited for smaller drills (11/64" dia. or smaller), but could be used with a 1/4" shank chamfer tool. The chuck has very clear markings on it, some nickel plating still intact also, about equal to the rest of the tool. The chuck is different from most other tools this chuck design had as this one has a knurled threaded lock nut on it to keep the chuck from loosening in normal operation. It works very well. The is wear, but it's mostly on the finish of the hardwood handle and on the nickel plating of the rest of the tool. The handle is in very good, solid, well attached condition. In over 25 years of collecting and selling antique tools, this is the first I have seen of this type chuck mounted on a push drill! Considered rare! |
