Manufacturer: North Sea Yacht Club
Wonderful vintage drinking glass, likely a bar glass or barware, in cut crystal with nautical decor and gold line trim. A possible souvenir piece for the North Sea Yacht Club with that stated on the glass along with two three color flags in white, yellow and red with black outlining.
A quick internet search didn't turn up any information on a club with just this name, but we found information regarding the Royal North Sea Yacht Club in Oostende, Belgium. We don't know that these two are the same club, but images of the club flag on their website appear to match one of the flags (the one on the right, above the words Yacht Club) on this glass, so this may be from that organization. We got this out of a home and this is the only glass we received.
This glass is clear crystal (with a slight "ping" when tapped), having a neat vertical multi-layered cut design on about the bottom half of the glass. Stands about 4 1/2 inches in height with a smaller round base of about 1 7/8 inches in diameter, and sides that flare upward and slightly outward to a top opening diameter of about 2 15/16 inches. The glass has a flat underside that looks to have been nicely ground (a sign of better made glass) with several bubbles visible in the glass from the underside base. This weighs about 5.6 ounces unpacked and will be shipped in a box for safely
We've provided 8 images from a range of angles including closeups. Some images were shot with a rolled up piece of white paper inside the glass to aid in seeing the frontside flag and club name decor. Please examine closely, using the zoom feature.
Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, major flaws. This looks very clean and in good shape, as if it were just kept on a shelf rather than used, but we don't know that for certain. The two flags are outlined in black, but these lines are not sharp and solid, they appear dotted in many areas on very close inspection, which likely is how this was made, but could be some wear, we don't know, still not bad or noticeable on display. The gold trim and line are in terrific shape, perhaps with some slight wear, but nothing bad at all. There are a few pin dots in the clear glass between the two flags, and perhaps other slight age/washing/handling wear, but there is nothing to worry about here.
An impressive glass ready to use or display. Would make a great addition to any general nautical, ship, sailing or boating collection, particularly one related to yachts and yachting. Also just a fun piece to add to an elegant barware collection. |
