Mythical beast tile - probably made in Germany - but could possibly be Belgian. Definitely circa 1890. This is molded with nice relief - 5 3/4" square - medium brown majolica glaze with a bit of iridescence to the glaze. In very good condition. (#1314)
For pottery collectors, the subject matter of this tile just doesn’t get any better! Shows a young boy hugging and kissing a large pot. Done in a blue to bluish green majolica glaze - this oval tile would probably have been originally used for ornamentation in a parlor stove. Dating from circa 1890, this is molded in extremely high relief. Country of origin not known, but probably English. Measures 8" x 4 ¾". Back side has chipping. There is a crack which extends down from his front foot to the tile edge, runs horizontally then goes back up near his other foot. The front surface and relief work are in excellent condition. (#T-1053)

This measures 8 ¼" long, 5 ¾" wide (at the back), and just shy of 3" high (at the back). Obviously, this is an ashtray. The glaze is awesome - combination of green and purple. The purple is very thick and gloppy, and has a volcanic type feel and effect. Impressed mark on the side and hand incised mark on bottom. In truly excellent condition. (#T-1453)

Two factory misses - a small glaze miss above his arm, and a glaze pop below his elbow. Minimal wear to the high points on the crown. Two very tiny edge glaze flakes, on the outside edge. (#T-1833)
Brush McCoy, of Roseville, Ohio, ZuniArt bowl, from their Stoneart line of stoneware. This line was made from 1923 - 1928. Measures 8 1/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches high. This is in wonderful condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There is one light rub to one long section of the red/brown band which can be seen in the photo. There is also some very minor discoloration on the bottom of the pot which I believe will clean up. A fabulous piece and an unusual size. (#T1202M)

Transfer printed design with colors of brown on buff, measuring 6" square. A de-installed tile; the back has mortar residue, and unfortunately there is quite a bit of edge chipping. This is a hard to find English Victorian series, and would look fabulous in a frame. (#3258)
Interesting subject on this 5 ¾" square tile - some kind of creature with a man’s head, and the body of a lion. Looks like there’s a rat or a mouse on his rump as well! White background with several shades of blue and black outlining, and a semi matte finish. This is in excellent condition. The back is not marked but I suspect this is Spanish from the 1940’s. (#1462)

There is a wonderful chocolate brown glaze on this matched pair of portrait tiles made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company (Zanesville, OH), circa 1890. The relief is extremely high. Each tile is 8" square, and has the early AET mark on the back. The condition is very good. There are no problems on any of the high relief areas of the portraits - which is unusual. There are 2 small areas of professional restoration on the female - on the upper edge of the circle over her head, and in the bottom left corner. The male tile has one small area of restoration on the circle edge over his head. Marvelous portrait tile pair - would look exceptional framed! (#T-1054)
