The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works of Doylestown, PA remade tiles in the original circa 1920 hand made methods. This Mayflower tile is one of their earlier remakes. Dating from 1974, this is 3 ¾" square. Made on buff clay, with a semi matte glaze and light blue in the background and recesses. One chip in the upper left corner. An interesting example of the early remakes. (#1001)
Lovely form and glaze on this hand thrown piece of Peters and Reed pottery, from their Zane Ware line. Measures 6 ½ in diameter, and about 3 high, has a ruffled edge. Bottom has 3 stilt marks and a blue ink stamp. There is one very tiny glaze fleck (<1/16) on the lip. Overall very nice condition. (#T-1776)
The central design on this heavy hand made pottery tray looks a winged sea serpent biting the head of an animal. Or, perhaps, the two animals are really one? Done in a high glaze turquoise, this tray measures roughly 13 x 9, with an inch high pie crust edge. The rectangular center area is a raised surface itself, and then the design is in moderate relief. Generally nice condition, there are some areas of light glaze flaking and other areas where the glaze did not flow. No obvious marks on this weighty piece of clay. (#T-1005)

This marvelous set is a tankard pitcher and 4 matching mugs. The pieces all have an iridescent luster glaze. Best description is probably a dark cranberry lots of black to grey glaze flowing as well. The glaze is truly superior. There are 4 handled mugs and one large tankard pitcher. The mugs are approximately 4 ¾" tall , with a bottom diameter of 3 ¾". The tankard is just over 10" tall, the bottom diameter is 4 ¾". One of the mugs has three tight firing cracks showing on the bottom. All other pieces are in excellent condition.
There are 2 impressed marks on the bottom of the mugs: Unis France in a lozenge, and then Rambervillers NOSGES GresA Cytere. These pieces were made by the French artist Alphonse Cytere from Rambervillers - 1851-1941. (#T-1008)

This 6" square tile depicts John Bright, and is done in a honey amber majolica glaze. Made by J C Edwards, of England, circa 1890, tiles from this company are hard to come by. John Bright was an important figure in British social and political areas. More information on him can be found on the web doing a search under his name. Executed in both molded relief and intaglio techniques. There is some minor edge roughness, and minimal surface glaze wear. Generally, very nice condition. (#3002)
This tile is adorned with hand painted designs of cyclamens. Measures 7 ¾" square, and is set in a newer wood frame with burgundy and antique gold coloring. The total measurement with the frame, is 11 ¼" square. I believe this to be Spanish or Italian in origin, probably done in the 1940s. In excellent condition. (#T-1066)

Marked Tuileries de Marcke -Lez -Courtrai Belgium on the reverse. There are 2 small chips to the backside corners, otherwise in excellent condition. Round majolica trivet, with a greyhound type of dog, on the grass, depicted in the center. The top has 5 well defined green leaves, and the bottom has two elongated leaves in brown. Directly underneath the dog is the date 1882. Relief molded, this is probably German in origin. There are the beginnings of two hairlines on the back, which are not drastic, and do not go through to the front. The front surface is in lovely condition. (#T-1115-A)
Hand made and sculpted tile of a Viking sailing ship. Done in fabulous matte glazes - the ship is purple, the heavenly body a dark salmon, the background a mottled blue, and those colors repeated along the self framing edge. Measuring 6 3/4" long x 5" high, x 1/2" thick. 4 chips to the self framing edge and corners, but not all that noticeable. Signed E. Underhill on the back, this certainly screams Arts & Crafts Movement, alhtough I am unfamiliar with this designer/modeler. (#T-1404)
Whimsical and wonderful scene on this round majolica tile - a big dog lies in his dog house and stares at a crow. His bowl is right there - did the crow try to steal his food? Probably German in origin, the back of this has a raised circular edge, allowing the tile to function as a trivet. Fully glazed on all sides and edges, this has a background color of pale cream and molded design in brown, green, gold, black and gray. The back edge shows minor edge wear, two shallow flakes, and another wear line. The front surface is excellent, still with its original shiny glaze. (#T-1407)
