Copperton Lane Antiques & Collectibles

Circa: 1940
Country of Origin: US
Manufacturer: Mid Century American Production
This vintage reddish brown and white Cocker or Springer Spaniel chalkware figure is a large bank with the coin slot at the back below the collar so it can easily be displayed as a figurine. It stands nearly 12 inches high by about 10-1/2" long. It was likely produced as a fair or carnival prize between the 1930s and 1950s.

The dog is more realistic looking than most chalk figures of this type. There are some typical nicks and scuffs, most minor and minimal. The one noticeable chip is to the fur behind the right leg, visible in the second picture. Overall the condition is quite good. Most chalkware banks were broken to get the money out, but this one just has a carefully cut or drilled hole in the bottom. It looks like someone wrote their name in crayon on the bottom, and there are some stains from old tape. The last photo shows the dog with his or her twin, also listed in my shop.
