This beautiful plate is the fifth issue, Cristo Cammina Sulle Acque, (Christ Walking on the Water) released in December of 1986 in the Ghiberti Doors Collection.
The Ghiberti Doors is a Limited Edition collector's plates by Maestro Alberto Santangela. Sponsored by the prestigious Musio del Duomo of Florence, Italy. Crafted in ivory alabaster, inspired by the incomparable bronze North Doors of San Giovanni Baptistery in Florence, which were originally created by Lorenzo Ghiberti between the years 1401 and 1424.
The hills of Tuscany have been a world center for the mining and carving of alabaster since the Renaissance. Plates issued under the hallmark of the Studio Dante di Voltaradici are crafted in a tradition that now reaches back some five centuries.
Maestro Santangela has worked tirelessly to restore the art of painted sculpture as practiced by the masters of antiquity.
