As new and un-used just as it would have been installed, is this neat little gadget that many mid 19th century home owners will recognize. (Except this one is without the usual several layers of milk then oil base paint.) These little friction locks(illustrated here with a U.S. quarter for size comparison) were installed with a single flat head wood screw on the inner vertical sash of the old weighted multi pane windows. An easy push on the turned lever (except when it was clogged with vintage paint) would secure the window closed or hold it up so the fresh air could pass.
