Vintage 1976 Colonial Life Wall Hanging. History: In 1975 my wife decided to enter a Colonial theme contest in 1976. I designed a layout and she designed the rest, technique, colors, detail, etc. She won an honorable mention. The hanging was folded and stored until recently. There are notable dimensions: The large linen piece (background) measures approximately 40" x 30". The overall graphic stitching area measures 22" x 19". The materials are applique, material scraps, felt and embroidery. Colonial elements include (from top), a Colonial house, 2 apple trees, flying birds, fence, cow and sun. Below the fence is a large garden area indicating various crop areas. A husband and wife are pronounced figures. She has rosy cheeks, flowered print dress and apron. He has a tri-corner hat, rosy cheeks and is holding an ear of corn. A plow with a standing bird is shown. To the left of the plow are the words: "THY WORK, THE SOIL" "THY WAGE, MORE TOIL" "THY LOVE, THE SOIL". This piece is a one of a kind. There is plenty of linen material to trim and construct a nice framed wall hanging.
