This is to certify that Brig. Gen. Hammond, Comdg. 1st Brigade, 1st Div., Cav. Corps., Mil. Div. Miss.[issippi] ordered the seizure of all horses fit for Cav. service at or near this Post, and receipts given, which he would have taken up, and receipts given by an officer detailed for the purpose from his command. This he failed to do and the receipts given by me are now in the hands of citizens from whom horses were taken. The receipt marked "A" is one of the receipts mentioned.

Albert R. Hall, enlisted as a private, on June 21, 1861, and was mustered into Co. D, 2nd Minnesota Infantry. He was promoted to corporal and sergeant, dates unknown; wounded in action on September 19, 1863, in the battle of Chickamauga, Ga.; and mustered out of this regiment on July 4, 1864. He was commissioned 1st lieutenant, 11th Minnesota Infantry, August 26, 1864, and mustered out of the service on June 26, 1865. After the war, Hall served as a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives, 1869-75, and was speaker of the house, 1872-75.
