Anticus Antiques

Circa: Late 1800s
Condition: Used
Country of Origin: FR
Manufacturer: Unknown
Antique brooch, high carat gold mount with beautifully carved ivory oval of intricate roses, leaves, assorted flowers. It would date from the late 1800s. This is Dieppe ivory, well known for very fine carving. The gold mount is heavily engraved with flowers and scrolls. Gold tests as 22 carat. Brooch measures 5.65 cm by 4.8 cm. There is some loss to the ivory on one end of the oval - in the images, it is the top left of the face of the brooch, above the left rose. There may have been an old repair to the mount where the clasp hinge is attached. Otherwise, for the age and delicacy of this item, it is in very good condition, and is one of the prettiest examples of Dieppe I've seen.
