Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: 1884-94
Condition: Very Good
Manufacturer: Germantown Tool Works Philadelphia PA.
Offering this nice clean side offset hatchet/axe marked "GERMANTOWN" inside a rectangular logo which is the full name "Germantown Tool Works" located in Philadelphia PA. during the late 1800's era.  The cutting edge is nearly 5 inches wide and the blunt edge is about 2" wide.  Overall length is about 18" and appears to be the original handle from the late 1800's era.  The width from blunt edge to cutting edge is 6".  Weight is 2.7 lbs..  One of the best I have seen from this era.  Certainly not abused with minimal wear.  You may wish to sharpen it differently for your application, but is sharp and ready to use as is.  A rare find.  Would make a nice gift!  Germantown was well known for their quality cast steel tool like this one.  They were only in business from 1884-94 as far as we know, so Germantown tools are becoming rare.
