Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Late 1800's
Condition: Good++
Manufacturer: Goodell Bros. Co. (pre-Goodell-Pratt Co.)
This is a rare tool manufactured in the 1890's in Greenfield Mass! This slot bit screwdriver is 13" long fully extended, 8.25" long closed and locked in a stationary position, without the bit in the chuck. The slot bit extends out another 3" from the chuck end. This one is in good useable condition, with one 1/4" wide slot bit included. The middle brass ferrule is marked "GOODELL BROS. GREENFIELD MASS. PATENT JULY 22, 1890 NOV.17, 1891". Goodell Bros. continue manufacturing until 1899 when they became Goodell-Pratt. This is a unique design with a good solid wood handle, that has some minor wear, and dings mostly at the end of the handle. The spiral feature is in nice shape, has a little bit of play, but is staight and turns smoothly in the clockwise driving direction only, hence screwdriver and not undriver (as per factory design). The bit is removeable, held in place very tightly with a good screw chuck. The brass is realy nice on this one, as well and the steel, all nicely polished. Overall a very nice clean tool. One of the few we have seen in this nice of condition!
