Mayer's Market

Condition: Very Good
Manufacturer: New Glarus Hotel/Restaurant

This heavy clear glass mug (or stein?) is a souvenir from the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant in Wisconsin. We're told there often is confusion about why the business is called a hotel, when in fact it primarily serves as a restaurant.

The answer lies in the site's history - it began as a hotel for salesmen and travelers, with the main dining room used as an opera house. Vaudeville shows, silent movies and the first motion pictures of the era provided travelers with entertainment.

The stage was mostly unused from 1950 to 1965 when it was converted into a Swiss-style yodeling club, complete with restaurant. While the yodeling is now reserved for special events, the authentic Swiss-style dining endures!

The 6-inch tall mug is in Very Good condition with no apparent defects. It measures 3-inches diameter at the base and 4-inches diameter (including handle) at the top.
