Life and Campaigns of Major General J.E.B. Stuart

By H.B. McClellan. Edited with an introduction by Burke Davis. Civil War Centennial Series. Indiana University Press, Bloomington. Copyright 1958. Hard cover, with dust jacket. Dust jacket shows some wear and some chipping with paper loss. Protected in a mylar dust cover. 455 pages, index, illustrated front piece, maps. Personal library plate affixed inside of the front cover. Name and 1959 date written in ball point ink on title page. The book is very clean and in very nice condition. A must for anyone interested in the cavalry operations of the Army of Northern Virginia and the life of it's most flamboyant commander, General J.E.B. Stuart who was killed in action in 1864.

The author, H.B. McClellan served as one of General J.E.B. Stuart's staff officers, and his book on Stuart is one of the most highly regarded on the subject. Ironically, four of McClellan's brothers fought for the Union, and the famous Union general, George B. McClellan, was his cousin.

The notes of author Burke Davis make wonderful reading by themselves and add a great deal to the understanding and appreciation of the great Confederate cavalry hero.
