  • Minnequa Flax Water Bag Pueblo Tent Co.

Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: 1930's-50's
Condition: Good++
Manufacturer: Pueblo Tent & Awning Co. Plueblo, CO
This is a nice clean vintage flax water bag that was made to carry water and keep water cool in hot desert conditions.  The idea that works is that air from wind movement blows against the flax material that naturally breath in such a way that it is a water cooler of sorts.  The print says to "soak in water before using" so the exterior water help to keep the interior water cool.  The printed in blue lettering states: "MINNEQUA IMPORTED FLAX WATER BAG  MADE BY THE PUEBLO TENT & AWNING CO  PLUEBLO, COLORADO".  This bag has a aluminum clip closure at the top that seals the top opening.  The clip opens when you pull the long pin out of the center.  There is also a round cap like closure with a chain attached to it.  If you lift the metal chain like lever, the closure ring releases and you can lift the cap.  This closure is very snug and takes being careful not to spill your water while opening it, but otherwise, works great.  The flax bag measures 9.5" x 15".  Overall good shape, seems to hold water pretty well.
