Circa: 1855
Several years ago I bought 4 famous harbor or waterway prints, intending to hang them in my living room. Somehow they got misplaced and they never were hung. I just found all 4 in a nice tight plastic box where they’ve been for over 20 years. This is definitely not my area of prime interest or expertise, but I think that all 4 prints are beautiful, and obviously not color-damaged or faded from exposure.
As far as I can determine, all are antique line engravings which were hand tinted, ca 1850-1855. Although not super large, they present quite a bit of detail, and are in very good condition; all have antique lined, cream colored matting and custom quality framing wood, each a little different. There are 2 frames of the same size, and the other 2, slightly smaller are similar in size. All have paper backing and a wire for hanging.

The next print is New-York. ca 1855.
Overall frame is 14 ¼ x 12 ¼ inches, the same size as the Boston print; gorgeous warm brown burl wood on the front; triple-lined cream mat with one stripe of pale yellow; plain glass is intact.

The image is all harbor, with water, sky with clouds, 2 large ships in the foreground and several smaller ones behind. The dominant color is blues with a slash of pale yellow over the land area. This main colored section measures 7 5/8 x 5 1/4 inches.

There is an area of white around the main picture, where New-York. is printed underneath, with a smaller Vol. II, page 384 underneath that; J.R.Smith.del is seen in the left lower corner, with J. Archer SC seen in the right lower corner, both under a fine double black line and in very tiny print.

There is slight distress to the paper which seems wavey and slight smudgy in the white areas. There is no apparent foxing or mildew. All of this is very subtle.
