Next week's story request is to tell us about something that you have collected that seems to have a spirit within it. This might be something that moves around the house on it's own or maybe makes strange sounds. Tell us haw you acquired the item, what it does that is unusual and how you feel about having it in your home. Send your story to phil@tias.com and I'll publish it in an upcoming newsletter. Here is this week's story....
--

Some years ago my late husband purchased a shelf clock at auction. We kept it on the mantle. After he passed away I was moving the items off the mantle so I could wash the mantle scarf and dust the mantle. I took the scarf to the porch and gave it a good shake and then I heard a clink, clink. I realized I hadn't moved the key to the clock and that it had fallen down somewhere. I looked and looked and my sons looked and looked to no avail. I had given up on ever finding it when I again took the scarf off the mantle to launder it. I hand washed it and let it air dry and took it back to the mantle. While I was trying to arrange it for some reason it would not lie right. I pulled it down and looked and there was the key. How it got back on the scarf I will never know but I do know it wasn't there either time when I washed it because I washed it by hand and wrung it out by hand. I like to think my husband helped me find it. You can be sure I will take better care of it from now on.

--Another Story--

"Spirited" furniture? A buffet I bought at auction in 1975. It was Victorian with convex doors and pillars on each side and bear claw feet. It was also huge. One of my girls who was nine was terrified of it and referred to it as "him." The feet, I think. My life was the very proof of haunted things - everything that could go wrong did for the nine years I had it, up to and including divorce. Then I gave it to a friend, a hairdresser, who fell down the steps outside his apartment and injured his shoulder, got part of the apartment blown away in a tornado - then he gave it to his mother, who shortly afterward caught her husband with another man. I don't know what finally happened to it.

When my niece, Greta, was just old enough to learn songs, her mother taught her several. On a visit to her grandmother's home, someone decided to tape Greta as she sang. Every time the audio cassette was played back, Greta would pronounce proudly, "That's Greta in there." --Sheila

A reader requested recipe for ""Lemon cupcakes made with real lemon" . We received the following...
--
Lemon Cupcakes

2 1/4 cups cake flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
4 large egg whites
1 1/2 cups sugar
lemon zest from two lemons
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pure lemon extract

Frosting:

2 (8) ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 stick butter, softened
2 lbs. confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
juice of one lemon

Directions:

For the Cake

1. Center a rack in the oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare cupcake tins by using liners or spray with non-stick cooking spray
2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
3. Whisk together the milk and egg whites in a medium bowl.
4. Put the sugar and lemon zest in a mixer bowl or another large bowl and rub them together with your fingers until the sugar is moist and fragrant. Add the butter and, working with the paddle or whisk attachment, or with a hand mixer, beat at medium speed for a full 3 minutes, until the butter and sugar are very light.
5. Beat in the extracts, then add one third of the flour mixture, still beating on medium speed. Beat in half of the milk-egg mixture, then beat in half of the remaining dry ingredients until incorporated.
6. Add the rest of the milk and eggs, beating until the batter is homogeneous, then add the last of the dry ingredients.
7. Finally, give the batter a good 2-minute beating to ensure that it is thoroughly mixed and well aerated. Place the batter into the cupcake tins.
8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the cupcakes are well risen and springy to the touch – a thin knife inserted into the centers should come out clean. Cool on wire rack.
Frosting:
1. Using a mixer, blend the butter and cream cheese together until well combined.
2. Gradually add in the confectioners’ sugar until fully incorporated.
3. Finally mix in vanilla and lemon juice.
