"I'm attaching a photo of one of the many doilies my maternal grandmother made. My mom says my grandmother couldn't read a crochet pattern, but she could duplicate any doily just by looking at a picture of it. My mom had this one framed for me, and it's one of my most prized possessions." You can see a photo of the framed doily here: http://on.fb.me/YFqPeX - We've also got a wonderful collection here: http://www.tias.com/textiles/doilies/

--Another Story--

"My wife and I got this old sign out of her grandmothers old country store back in the 1960's. The store had closed in the 50's. This was the only store in the small town and was the local greyhound bus stop. I am so glad we rescued it. It has not been restored , and is in great shape. It is a double sided enamel painted steel sign." Robert H. - You can see a photo of his Greyhound sign here: http://on.fb.me/SJe12q - Are you interested in vintage transportation collectibles? 7, Funny Old Stuff
This is our humor section. These are humorous family stories and comments that are sent in by readers. If you have a submission you would like to share, please send it to newsletter@tias.com and we may run it in the next issue.
My husband & I recently visited the church of my aunt & uncle. The pastor had all the kids come up front while he did the children's sermon. There was special music that morning & the group was singing "Children Go Where I Send Thee" & they would sing one verse & the pastor would talk about that verse. When he got to the verse about Paul & Silas he asked if anybody knew who Paul & Silas were. A little girl eagerly raised her hand & the pastor asked her "Who are Paul & Silas" & she proudly answered "Those are my cousins!" Lisa A.

9. A Vintage Recipe
Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http://www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.

Bev requested an easy recipe for "Egg Nog" . We received the following.....
One quart whole milk
2 large eggs
vanilla to taste
Sugar to taste

Whip the eggs, sugar, and milk together until well combined. Put in sauce pan or double boiler and heat over medium heat until it thickens. Let it cool and add the vanilla, about a teaspoon and a half. If you like, you can add some rum flavoring that does not contain alcohol. It will make it taste more authentic. It will not be as thick as the store bought, but it will have some "body" to it. A sprinkle of ground nutmeg will add some more old-fashioned taste to it too.

This was one of the things we looked forward to at Christmas at my maternal grandmother's house. I'm not sure where the recipe originated, but she was born in Germany in 1880 and a lot of her recipes came across the Atlantic with the family...

As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.

The "Snickerdoodle" seems to come in many different variations. This wonderful cookie is a favorite in my family and we are looking for more versions to try out. Do your readers have a favorite family recipe for this cookie that we could try for the Holidays?....June
